Job Description Summary
The VP, Chief Medical Affairs (CMA) at Henry Ford Health (HFH) provides strategic leadership in the development of a physician strategy to support the HFH Rehabilitation Service Line. The VP, Chief Medical Affairs (CMA) at Henry Ford Health (HFH) provides strategic leadership in the development of a physician strategy to support the HFH Rehabilitation Service Line. The VP and CMA will lead on all aspects of physician recruitment, oversight of physician performance and medical practice quality indicators, and operational oversight for all physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APP) practicing across the HFH system of care, serving as the highest-ranking leader representing Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (SRAlab) at HFH.
The CMA will oversee physician and APP coverage, ensure seamless coordination of care across HFH sites, and advocate for academic, scientific, and professional excellence in rehabilitation services, including the development of a HFH Department of PM&R.
The CMA at HFH reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief Clinical Officer (SVP, CCO) of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, and has a reporting relationship to the HFH Oversight Committee. This position will collaborate with the Associate Vice President overseeing Rehabilitation Services at HFH to co-manage the operations team, ensuring efficient coordination and high-quality service delivery. It is expected that the CMA will maintain an active clinical practice, with a 0.4 FTE time allocation devoted to administrative responsibilities.
The CMA at HFH will consistently demonstrate support of the SRAlab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

Job Description
Principal Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight of PM&R Physicians and Medical Services
  • Serve as the highest-ranking SRAlab representative at HFH, overseeing all PM&R physicians and APPs across the HFH system of care

  • Lead and oversee the development of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at HFH

  • Determine scope of services within the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at HFH

  • Develop and oversee the PM&R consult service at HFH's downtown campus as well as several community hospitals across the HFH system of care

  • Develop and oversee the inpatient PM&R attending coverage for all community hospital-based IRF units across the HRH system of care

  • Develop and implement a clinical operations strategy and physician coverage plan for Destination Grand - the new, 72 bed IRF unit which is due to open in 2029.

  • Develop and implement an outpatient physician practice strategy, to include the development of outpatient neuro, musculoskeletal, spine, and cancer rehabilitation services

  • Manage physician and APP coverage across HFH sites, including weekend and after-hours coverage coordination

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for PM&R services, including Joint Commission and CARF accreditation standards

  • Set, communicate, and monitor physician performance expectations for all site-specific PM&R medical directors within HFH

  • Oversee physician competencies, professional development, and specialized skills training

  • Lead and participate in medical staff committees, including chairing committees as needed

  • Clinical Excellence, Quality, & Safety

  • Establish and monitor clinical performance metrics that ensure quality, safety, and patient satisfaction across all PM&R services at HFH

  • Advocate for and ensure the delivery of a scientific, evidence-based approach to PM&R care delivery

  • Develop and oversee educational programs for physicians, medical students, residents, and clinical staff, in collaboration with SRAlab's Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Nursing Leadership

  • Promote continuous quality improvement (CQI) by analyzing patient outcomes, satisfaction scores, and other quality reports to identify areas for clinical and operational improvements

  • Ensure the safety and quality of the care environment at all PM&R sites within HFH

  • Physician Engagement, Talent Development, & Workforce Management

  • Recruit, onboard, and retain highly skilled PM&R physicians and APPs across HFH

  • Provide operational leadership and mentorship to applicable PM&R Medical Directors and other physician leaders

  • Establish performance expectations and evaluation systems for medical leadership and frontline physicians

  • Partner with the SRAlab's physician practice to ensure professional conduct and maintain a positive physician culture

  • Oversee site-specific PM&R physician compensation and participate in the Physician Compensation Plan Steering Committee to ensure transparency, equity, and market competitiveness

  • Operational & Financial Management

  • Work alongside the Executive Director of HFH to manage the operations team and ensure financial sustainability of PM&R services

  • Develop and monitor operating budgets, ensuring financial performance aligns with organizational goals

  • Align PM&R physician operations with broader HFH and SRAlab strategic objectives

  • Lead referral development efforts, holding site-specific medical directors accountable for building and maintaining strong referral relationships

  • Strategic Collaboration & Institutional Representation

  • Serve as the primary physician leader for HFH while representing SRAlab at all levels of governance and oversight

  • Maintain a reporting relationship to the HFH Oversight Committee and engage in collaborative decision making with executive leadership

  • Support all accreditation, credentialing, and regulatory preparations for PM&R services across HFH

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success and mission of SRAlab

  • Reporting Relationship

  • Reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief Clinical Officer (SVP, CCO)

  • Maintains a reporting relationship with the HFH Oversight Committee

  • Works in close collaboration with the Executive Director to oversee operations management

  • Engages with SRAlab and HFH senior leadership, administrative teams, and PM&R site-specific medical directors to align physician practice with HFH's overall mission and strategy

Education & Licensure:
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) with board certification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) is required.
