Job description

Job Description
The Assistant Controller supports the VP, Accounting and financial leadership team in managing accounting operations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains strong internal controls, oversees day-to-day accounting activities, and helps drive continuous process improvements. The Assistant Controller also provides guidance to accounting staff and serves as a key resource during audits, month-end close, and other financial initiatives. Day-to-day activities include content related accounting, operations, debt, ancillary revenue streams.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
  • Ensure accurate preparation of internal monthly reporting packages and assist with preparation and review of external financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Prepare internal and external cash flows statements at segment and consolidated levels used internally and in external financial statements.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of management reports and financial packages for the CFO.
  • Manage external audits and ensure compliance with audit requirements in assigned accounting functions.

General Ledger & Month-End Close
  • Assist with and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process related to assigned accounting areas.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain, improve, and enforce strong internal controls and accounting policies in assigned areas.
  • Identify and drive improvements in accounting systems, processes, and reporting capabilities for assigned areas.
  • Partner with IT on system enhancements, integrations, or implementations.

Finance Partnership
  • Collaborate with FP&A on budgets, forecasts, and financial modeling (including cash forecasting).
  • Provide data, insights, and recommendations around assigned areas to management to support business decisions.

Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports and staff.
  • Set clear performance expectations, conduct reviews, and guide career progression.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous innovation.

Technical Accounting
Provide expert guidance on technical accounting matters such as:
  • Broadcasters and Films (ASC 920 and ASC 926)
  • Leasing (ASC 842)
  • Fixed Assets (ASC 360)
  • Revenue (ASC 606) as needed.

Assist with the preparation of technical accounting memos and documentation.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
  • Mix of public (Big 4 or national firm) and industry accounting experience preferred.
  • Proven track record managing a corporate accounting team in mid-size or large companies.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks.
  • Attention to detail, integrity, and continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Workday) and Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Compensation
$185,000 - $225,000
