Job description

Experienced Veterinary Technician - Spruce Hill Veterinary Clinic - MA

Spruce Hill Veterinary Clinic is looking for a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our team. We are not just looking for "another technician." We are looking for someone who wants to help lead our hospital into the future.

Spruce Hill has proudly served the Springfield community for over 40 years. We have cared for generations of families and have been voted "Best Veterinary Practice" year after year by our loyal clients. That reputation exists because of our team. We support each other. We laugh together. We problem solve together. And we show up for our patients and clients every single day.

We are a collaborative, positive, highly communicative group that genuinely enjoys working together. Our exam rooms are newly updated, our workflows are strong, and our clients are engaged and respectful. We are looking for a technician who wants to grow with us and continue raising the standard of medicine we practice.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting doctors with exams, procedures, and surgeries
  • Confident blood draws on both dogs and cats
  • Experience and confidence placing IV catheters, monitoring anesthesia, surgical prep and recovery
  • Experience in performing dental radiographs and scaling/polishing teeth
  • Administering medications and vaccinations
  • Understanding and following vaccine protocols
  • Strong foundational knowledge of pharmacology
  • Compassionate and effective restraint and low-stress handling techniques
  • Involvement in patient diagnostics including lab work and imaging
  • Delivering exceptional customer service through client education

Client education is a major part of this role. We are looking for someone who is comfortable explaining treatment plans, vaccine protocols, preventive care, and post-operative instructions clearly and confidently. Our technicians help build trust with our clients. They are educators and advocates for their patients.

We are looking for someone with veterinary technician experience who can also help coach and develop other veterinary professionals entering the field. If you enjoy mentoring assistants, supporting externs, or helping newer team members build confidence, you will thrive here. This is a hospital that believes in growth. We value ideas. We welcome initiative. We want someone who sees the big picture and wants to contribute to the future direction of the practice.

Must have at least 2+ years experience working as a senior veterinary technician. Strong foundational clinical and technical skills. Comfortable handling patients of various sizes and temperaments. Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment. Positive, team-focused mindset with a desire to keep learning. Vetspire experience is a plus but not required.

Full-time position options available. Ability to leave work at a reasonable hour. Team support that allows for uninterrupted lunch breaks.

Compensation starting at $20 per hour and commensurate with experience.

  • Flexible work schedules
  • Health Care, Life Insurance, & Disability: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans; employer-paid basic life insurance and voluntary options including AD&D short-term and long-term disability coverage to protect your income during unforeseen events.

  • Paid Time Off: Four (4) weeks of paid time off for all full-time teammates. Two (2) floating holidays for added flexibility.
  • Training & Development: Continuing education. Personalized development programs, including regular check-ins and tailored growth plans, to help you advance in your career.
  • Tuition Assistance: Support for paying off student loan debt, available to all full-time teammates
  • Uniform Allowance: $150 per year for full-time teammates to ensure you're equipped with professional attire.
  • Discounted Pet Care
  • Industry Leading Parental Leave Policy
