Job description

Job Summary

Small animal, one doctor veterinary practice in Richmond, Texas (SW Houston) seeks friendly, efficient experience veterinary techncian or LVTs who appreciate the human-animal bond, to join our fast-paced hospital. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to collecting blood, ear, stool and urine samples, running in-house lab work on IDEXX Equipment, assisting in surgery, on dentals, in rooms and in treatments of hospitalized patients. Responsibilities also include educating our clients, giving vaccinations and injections for treatments, taking digital radiographs, preparing samples to be sent to a lab outside the hospital, cleaning patient cages, laundry, and keeping our hospital clean of odor and diseases. Applicants must be dedicated, motivated, mature, reliable and , hard-working. Accuracy and attention to detail is a necessity. Punctuality is also critical.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Technician Duties:

- Perform treatment as specified on treatment sheets for hospitalized patients

Review vaccination records and prepare vaccines according to our vaccine protocol

- Assist veterinarian in medical procedures using proper restraint;

know how to restrain fractious patients

- Assist veterinarian in surgical procedures using proper aseptic technique

- Maintain and use medical equipment such as IDEXX Lasercyte and autoclave

- Perform routine laboratory procedures and analyses in hematology, microbiology (cytology), urinalysis, and serology

- Prepare samples for outside laboratory analysis

- Monitor patients under anesthesia

- Induce anesthesia and intubate patient

- Administer treatments and injections following the instructions of a doctor or a treatment form

- Initiate emergency procedures

- Maintain pharmacy records, and controlled drug, anesthesia, Euthanasia, and fecal logs

- Take and develop radiographs

- Take vital signs of animals including temperature, pulse, and respiration

- Perform dental cleanings and dental radiographs

- Perform and analyze skin and ear cytologies

- Perform catheterization- venous

- Complete ear cleanings and nail trims

- Monitor kennel and make sure that ALL animals are comfortable and properly cared for at all times.

- Check in boarders and fill out boarding forms appropriately.

- Follow treatments and feeding schedule directed on the boarding sheets

- Close Kennel each evening during scheduled closing shifts and ensure that all animals are secured

properly and the building is locked, gates closed.

Qualifications and Skills

Certified or experienced (one + years in field) veterinary technician with good client communication and telephone skills.
