Job description

Nurse Pool - Registered Nurse (RN)

The Nurse Pool - Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the setting. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization. Other duties include and not limited to the following:

  • Integrates knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex situations for varying areas of nursing. Validates understanding of the rationale for care processes and decisions.
  • Manages the care of patients, while organizing and prioritizing patient care needs, and ensuring assigned tasks are completed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrates competence in practice and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills for all patient care areas included within Resource Pool assignments.
  • Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care.
  • Provides and directs others in Veteran/patient driven care that optimizes the patient's experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients.
  • Demonstrates compassion for self and others. Makes sound decisions under pressure. Effectively handles multiple demands, anticipates, and resolves conflicts.
  • Shares knowledge and learning opportunities that enhance current nursing practice for self and others.
  • Models effective resource utilization through the delegation of cost-effective care delivery.
  • Consistently communicates and treats the Veteran and as appropriate the Veteran's family, caregiver and/or significant other, the Veteran representatives, visitors to VA facilities, all VA staff, and other customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.

Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Work Schedule: 7:30am - 8:00pm with rotating shifts/weekends/holidays, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.
