Brattleboro Memorial Hospital has been serving the town of Brattleboro and the surrounding communities in southern Vermont, southwestern New Hampshire, and western Massachusetts for nearly 120 years. Nestled in the beautiful Green Mountains, Brattleboro is a progressive arts community with a vibrant, family-oriented downtown lined with coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, and bookstores. POSITION SUMMARY


Brattleboro Memorial Hospital (BMH) is seeking an energetic clinician to serve as Medical Director within our Primary Care Team, part of a 50-provider, hospital-employed, multi-specialty outpatient practice. Primary Care is recognized as the foundation of the BMH Healthcare System, and the BMH Medical Group is committed to fostering a supportive, team-based model that delivers high-quality, patient- and family-centered care while advancing community and population health.


This leadership-focused clinical role includes direct patient care, ensuring continued clinical engagement and a firsthand understanding of patient and provider needs. In addition to clinical practice, the Medical Director will provide medical oversight and clinical direction across four Primary Care sites, ensuring consistent delivery of evidence-based, high-quality care. Responsibilities include developing and implementing clinical protocols and best practices, mentoring clinicians, and leading quality improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing patient outcomes.


The position requires close collaboration with administrative leadership to enhance clinic workflows, scheduling, and EHR utilization, as well as participation in the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of clinicians. The Medical Director will actively foster interdisciplinary teamwork among Primary Care clinicians, clinical staff, and administrative personnel, and work closely with practice managers and the Medical Group Director to address operational and staffing needs.


The role also includes oversight of quality and patient safety initiatives, patient complaint review, risk management collaboration, and promotion of infection control and public health standards. The Medical Director will support financial and strategic planning by contributing to budget development, identifying growth opportunities, assessing community health needs, and advancing value-based care and cost-efficiency strategies.


Finally, the Medical Director will help promote ongoing education and professional development by leading or participating in training programs, case reviews, CME activities, performance evaluations, and FPPE/OPPE processes, playing a key role in cultivating an engaged, high-performing Primary Care practice.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION

Education:

  • Completion of degree/residency from an accredited school (MD, DO, PA, APRN)
  • Board certification or eligibility for certification by the appropriate governing body

Experience/Skill Set:

  • Minimum of three years of experience as a practicing clinician in an ambulatory care setting
  • Demonstrated track record of successful leadership experience.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills to effectively assess and treat conditions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport with patients and collaborate      with healthcare teams.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to accuracy and patient safety.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development and staying updated with emerging trends and      research

Licensure/Certification:

  • Valid Vermont medical license to practice
  • Valid Vermont DEA license
  • CPR for Healthcare providers
