About the Role
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality in the management of inventory, production schedules, and distribution processes. This role requires a hands-on approach to implementing Lean Principles, supervising staff, and driving continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include managing productivity, safety, quality, delivery, and inventory while ensuring adherence to company policies and industry standards.

1. Productivity (& Supervision)

o Self-Identifies & Implements (build & launch) Lean Principles to eliminate waste and reduce cost (e.g. 6S, Visual Management, Key Performance Indicators, time studies, continuous improvement program etc.)

o Supervising, scheduling, training, hiring and holding employees accountable to work in the warehouse either as laborers, equipment operators, clerks or inventory control personnel.

o Ensures that created work schedules are correctly followed and that jobs are assigned effectively and completed properly in all production cells.

o Manages building, vehicles, machinery and equipment issues via preventative maintenance programs and inspections (e.g. material handling equipment like Fork Trucks)

o Fulfilling objectives and directions from the operation's Division Manager, headquarters or executive leadership team via leading daily production standup communications and reporting up status via SQDIP Scoreboard.

o Partners with Corporate Operational Excellence team to standardize best practices

2. Safety (& Health, Environmental & Security)

o Maintain adherence to OSHA regulations as well as various other guidelines, standards and company operating procedures

oReport all accidents, incidents and near misses to management.

3. Quality

o Performs quality checks of processed and completed orders before shipment.

o Capability to be site quality representative and expert user of QT9 Quality Software

o Comfortable using 5 Why methodology and other quality tools to support Root Cause Corrective Actions and efforts by partnering with corporate quality team

o Performs quality inspections of received product and distributes product into the inventory when needed or applicable.

o Checking and verifying shipping records, handling questions or concerns of shipping shortages or overages and addressing any problems with inventory control.

o Maintains calibration records and familiar with AS9100 quality management system (or equivalent)

4. Delivery

o Understands production planning and can implement and provide metrics (e.g. on time delivery) or pulse points to determine workflow, efficiency and throughput.

o Has the ability to pull and package product, then prepares final product for shipment and distribution to customer if needed.

o Oversees the distribution of final product to multiple modes of transportation.

o Operates tier lift trucks or other material handling equipment to move, convey or hoist packaging and supplies to or from the storage and packaging areas.

5. Inventory

o Control and protect inventory/stock via cycle counting, tally process and ERP system

Work Experience / Competencies:

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in Operations preferred (Min 3 years supervisory)

  • Experience in the metals service industry or Aerospace Industry is a plus

  • Experience in the field of Warehouse Logistics and Management is a plus

  • Experience in using band saws, cold saws, fibrous cut-off saws and metal cutting processes is a plus

  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written

  • Detail oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy

  • Must be able to multitask and have strong organizational and time management skills

  • Must be proficient with computers and email usage
