Job description

Your responsibilities
Summary:
The Vehicle Dynamics Engineer is responsible for ensuring Bilstein's cutting edge passive and electronic dampers are meeting all customer requirements for dynamic performance, durability and manufacturability from project conception through EOL (End Of Life). The Vehicle Dynamics engineer will develop market expertise in all passive and electronic damping, vehicle dynamics and associated market trends. They will regularly provide this expertise to internal teams to ensure our products anticipate and meet market requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates vehicle testing events with customers on domestic and international proving grounds (Ride Events)
  • Available for up to 50% travel to customer proving grounds for ride events during peak season
  • Prepares Bilstein components, resources, and equipment for each ride event in coordination with internal and external project teams
  • Documents all activities during ride events including vehicle setups, damper data, valve code information, customer feedback, and suggestions for improvement
  • Maintains expertise in subjective and objective vehicle dynamics analysis. Identifies all on-vehicle gaps to customer requirements, then translates identified gaps into hardware and/or software changes to eliminate
  • Reports on all ride event activities after conclusion and coordinates with future event needs with the internal and external project teams
  • Organizes damper builds for short-term capability studies for damper characteristics including reporting results to the internal and external project teams
  • Responsible for ensuring damper characteristics adhere to both internal Bilstein standards as well as individual customer specifications
  • Aligns with system integration department on parameter tuning strategies and specifications for semi-active damper systems
  • Provides T&I department with vehicle dynamics requirements, identification of any existing performance gaps, and anticipated market requirements, in the development of new passive and semi-active damper systems
  • Collects and analyzes on-vehicle ride data for objective evaluation
  • Responsible for leading problem-solving activities related to damper settings affecting the vehicles' dynamic behavior, as well as any issues while industrializing proposed settings.
  • Drive communication between customer vehicle responsible staff and Bilstein project team regarding vehicle dynamic topics
  • Builds close working relationships with customer contacts to provide technical solutions to vehicle dynamics topics through early phases of vehicle development

Your profile
Qualifications & Experience:
  • 3-5+ years' experience in vehicle dynamics topics with a focus on chassis systems
  • Hydraulic and software damper tuning experience, as well as the ability to make valving changes to tunable dampers
  • Data collection experience (DEWESoft, HEADAcoustics, etc.)
  • Experience in vehicle development life cycles including transition from prototype to production in vehicle dynamics
  • Statistical analysis experience with an understanding of capability studies
  • Valid US driver's license with exceptional safety record
  • Valid US Passport with ability to travel internationally
  • Extensive experience with interpreting engineering drawings and models
  • Experience with measurement technology including load cells, calipers, height gauges, and displacement sensors
  • Experience with damper testing machines and software (Roehrig, CTW, MTS, LabA7, Gröpler, )
  • Excellent MS Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, Outlook, PowerBI, PowerApps etc..)

Education:
  • 4 year degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
