To strengthen our motorsports program, we are seeking a Motorsports Applied Vehicle Dynamics Track Modeling Engineer or Junior Motorsports Applied Vehicle Dynamics Track Modeling Engineer to support the development, maintenance, and optimization of our virtual track portfolio across multiple racing series. This role is critical to enabling simulation-driven performance gains, directly influencing on-track competitiveness.
In this position, you will partner closely with race teams and GM vehicle dynamics engineers to conduct rigorous quality control of virtual track models, implement track graphics and terrain updates, and contribute to the development and refinement of vehicle modeling inputs. Your work will directly impact simulation accuracy and the effectiveness of the broader motorsports toolchain.
The ideal candidate brings a proficiency in engineering software tools, exceptional attention to detail, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset. Success in this role requires the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight timelines, actively collaborate across the GM Motorsports ecosystem, and continuously push for improvements that translate into measurable on-track performance.
This position may be filled with a Motorsports Applied Vehicle Dynamics Track Modeling Engineer or Junior Motorsports Applied Vehicle Dynamics Track Modeling Engineer. The level for this role will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.
What You'll Do
  • Perform virtual track adjustments and quality control using 3D graphics creation suites and GM Motorsports simulation toolchain
  • Work with GM Motorsports groups to generate modeling updates which capture specific on-track conditions
  • Document and communicate track modeling updates across all relevant GM Motorsports groups
  • Maintain and develop software code utilized in virtual track management processes
  • Generate track related visual driver aids used during DiL simulator sessions
  • Perform quality control process for third-party sourced simulation tracks for DiL and offline sim usage
  • Be part of the broader simulation support team seeking to continuously improve and investigate methods to utilize the simulation toolchain and increase race team performance

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field of study
  • 2 or more years of professional experience using graphics creation and editing suites

  • Experience using graphics creation and editing suites (Blender, etc.)
  • Proficiency with motorsports data analysis platforms such as Pi Toolbox, MoTeC i2, or McLaren ATLAS
  • Prior experience utilizing rFactor Pro Motorsport applications
  • Experience working with LiDAR 3D point clouds
  • Familiarity with modern software development tools and environments, including C#, Python and Git
  • Experience working with Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL) simulators
