Total Vehicle Test Engineer II
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a highly motivated and proactive engineer for the Commercial Vehicle Development Department.
The Team:
The Commercial Vehicle Development Team oversees/supports efforts concerning Hyundai Motor Group's commercial vehicle development in the North American market
The Position:
Elaborates, coordinates and conducts testing plans on a range of vehicles going from light commercial van, up to over the road semi tractors. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including global R&D, regional engineering groups, and external partners, to align commercial vehicles development strategies with the North American market requirements. Commercial vehicles development aligns with our corporate goal of delivering the best vehicles for the North American customer through regional technical leadership and local/global collaboration.
What You Will Do
  • Perform subjective and objective vehicle evaluations on test tracks, proving grounds and public roads.
  • Identify potential customer complaint issues, investigate problem root causes, and recommend potential countermeasures.
  • Organize and execute bench-marking activities on competitive vehicles.
  • Summarize technical market trends for commercial vehicles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including global R&D, regional engineering groups, and external partners.
  • Create and present technical reports and presentations for management reviews.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including purchasing requests, budget management, and travel arrangements
  • Office Environment - no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands.
  • Shop Environment - exposure to fuel, compressed air/gas, emissions and exhaust fumes; pinching, tripping, electrical, and chemical hazards; bending and stooping required; must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. and work safely with hand power tools. May work in outdoors or indoors in extremes of weather and temperature. Safety glasses required.
  • Field Environment - Field temperature ranges from -40ยบ F to +120ยบ F; altitude ranges from -300 ft. below sea level to +14,000 ft. above sea level. May require bending and stooping and lifting while removing and attaching 55,000 lb. trailers to vehicles, installing instrumentation and repairing vehicle failures. May require operation of vehicles for total of 1000 miles over 2-3 day period. Safety glasses required when working on vehicles.
  • Proving Ground Environment - exposure to weather and temperature extremes - 32ยบF to +100ยบF ; high winds; exposure to hazardous fuels and oils; exposure to emissions and noise.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% (domestically/internationally)
  • Occasional travel within California, primarily day trips with some overnight stays, including testing at the California Proving Ground site.

What You Will Bring to the Role
  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience with electrified commercial vehicles.
  • Good understanding of human factors and vehicle architecture.
  • Good understanding of vehicle dynamics and electrified powertrain systems.
  • Proficiency in planning, executing, and monitoring projects
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills
  • Flexibility in handling multiple projects and changing priorities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Valid Driver's License, CDL a plus and satisfactory driving record
