What are Vecs?

Vecs, short for 'vectors,' are dynamic arrays commonly used in programming, especially in languages like Rust. A Vec allows you to store a variable number of elements of the same type and can grow or shrink as needed. They are widely used for their flexibility and efficiency in managing collections of data. In Rust, Vec is the most commonly used collection type for dynamically sized lists.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Vector Control Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Vector Control Specialist, you need knowledge of pest biology, public health principles, and environmental safety, typically supported by a relevant degree or certification in environmental health or pest management. Proficiency with GIS mapping software, pesticide application tools, and data collection systems is often required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication skills help professionals work safely and educate the public. These skills are essential for successfully reducing vector-borne disease risk and protecting community health.

What are some common challenges faced by VECs (Vocational Education Counselors) when supporting students' career planning?

Vocational Education Counselors often encounter challenges such as helping students identify realistic career paths that align with their interests and abilities, especially when students are uncertain or have limited exposure to the workforce. Navigating changing job market trends and ensuring students have access to up-to-date information about vocational opportunities can also be demanding. Counselors work closely with teachers, employers, and families to create individualized plans, requiring strong communication and adaptability. Balancing administrative duties with direct student support is another common aspect of the role.

Job description

Who We Are:
Veterinary Eye Centers are New York City's first specialty practice group dedicated exclusively to advanced animal eye care. Under the leadership of our Founding Medical Director, Dr. LoPinto, our newest location in Park Slope, Brooklyn is built on the same foundation that defines our current practices in other boroughs: exceptional medicine, thoughtful client communication, and a deeply collaborative team culture. Our practice brings together state-of-the-art diagnostics, microsurgical expertise, and a meticulous approach to ophthalmology, all delivered with compassion and clarity. As we expand to Brooklyn, we're focused on building a specialty hospital where clinical excellence, professional growth, and supportive teamwork are always in clear focus.
We're proud to be part of a small but growing movement to raise the bar for both patient care and workplace culture. At VEC, you'll find a schedule designed with balance in mind, a leadership team that listens, and a spirit of innovation that keeps us constantly evolving. Whether you're drawn to the precision and complexity of ophthalmological surgery, the chance to work in a highly specialized field, or simply the opportunity to be part of a kind and passionate team, VEC is a place to thrive.
We are seeking an experienced and intellectually curious Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our growing team. As a member of the ophthalmology team, you will be actively involved in both appointments and daily surgical procedures. Our Technicians run appointments and manage anesthesia for surgical patients from start to finish including making anesthesia plans, inducing and recovering, and anesthesia monitoring.
What We Offer:
  • The pay range for this role is: $34-$37/hr. Additional incentives available for candidates with a VTS.
  • $7,500 Sign-on bonus based on experience
  • 4 day work week

No weekends, no nights, no on-call, no major holidays!
  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage
  • FSA/HSA
  • Generous paid time off, up to 120 hours of PTO per year
  • 401(k) with a company match
  • Scrub Allowance
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Elective benefits through MetLife
  • Employee pet discounts
  • Discounted pet insurance

What We Require:
  • Licensure in New York State (LVT)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and an ability to clearly communicate with clients as well as team members
  • The ability to adapt while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Highly evolved organizational skills with an acute attention to detail
  • An openness to feedback, coaching, and continuous learning
  • 2+ years' experience as a Veterinary Technician preferred but not required

What Makes This Role Unique:
This is a Launch position as we've just opened our fourth location in Park Slope Brooklyn! This is a once-in-a-career chance to be a key part of a founding team and you'll gain unique experience both operationally and clinically as we expand our state of the art care in a new borough.
In addition to traditional Veterinary Technician duties, you will:
Medical responsibilities include:
  • Running appointments: History taking, ophthalmic diagnostics (STT, IOP, fluorescein stain application)

  • Filling medications
  • Assisting with short procedures during appointments such as corneal debridement
  • Performing diagnostics when requested during appointments such as venipuncture for bloodwork and blood pressure measurement
  • Record keeping such as input of patient histories

Surgical responsibilities include:

  • Induce patients for anesthesia

  • Troubleshoot patient anesthetic concerns and provide real-time treatments
  • Recover patients from anesthesia
  • Utilize paralytics during anesthesia for microsurgical procedures
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records throughout surgical procedures
  • Assist with pre-surgical diagnostics and patient preparation
