Medical Intensivist

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine is a premier academic medical center located in the heart of Richmond. Department Summary:

The Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine Division is a multi-faceted Division with full time faculty who provide care for any form of acute or chronic lung disease or critical illness. The mission of the Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine Division is to provide the best clinical care available for patients with lung disease and associated medical illnesses in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We feel that this care can best be delivered within the VCU Health System. Our mission is further to provide the best teaching of lung disease and associated disorders to future physicians. Finally, we strive to explore critically important lung and vascular and metabolic diseases through organized research.

Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Medicine is seeking well trained/highly qualified critical care physicians to provide clinical support as well advance the teaching and research mission of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division as a Medical Intensivist.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Provide teaching service to learners, including medical students, interns and residents
  • Use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice
  • Demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels
  • Complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner โ€“ including but not limited to written and verbal feedback
  • Participate in other learning activities such as foundations of clinical medicine, morning report, core conference, and other formal educational programs for undergraduate and post-graduate learners

Service:

  • Work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Medical Center, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health
  • Serves on institutional committees, study sections, review groups, as a journal editor, or editorial boards

Clinical:

  • Will provide exemplary care in the areas of Critical Care Medicine
  • Will provide institutional wide inpatient medical intensivist services targeted to improving the safety of our most vulnerable and critically ill patients while supporting capacity management and community based critical care

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Board certified/Board Eligible in Critical Care
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board certified in Critical Care after completing an ACGME-approved critical care (CC) fellowship

Salary Range: Commensurate
