What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Vba Developer Contract position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a VBA Developer Contract, you need strong skills in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Excel automation, and experience with data manipulation and troubleshooting, typically supported by a relevant degree or proven work history. Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, SQL databases, and, in some cases, certifications like Microsoft Office Specialist or similar are advantageous. Solid problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial as VBA Developers often deliver customized business solutions under tight deadlines, collaborating with stakeholders across departments.

Is VBA still used in 2026?

VBA remains used in 2026, especially for automating tasks in Microsoft Office applications like Excel and Access. Many organizations rely on VBA for legacy systems and custom macros, though newer automation tools are increasingly adopted. VBA skills are still valuable for maintaining existing workflows and supporting data analysis tasks.

How much do VBA developers make?

VBA developers typically earn between $50,000 and $90,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Contract roles may offer hourly rates ranging from $25 to $75, with higher rates for specialized skills or senior positions. Proficiency in Excel, macros, and automation tools can influence earning potential.

Does VBA have a future?

VBA remains relevant for many VBA Developer roles, especially in organizations that rely on legacy Excel and Office automation. While newer programming languages and tools are gaining popularity, VBA continues to be used for automation tasks, and demand persists for developers skilled in maintaining and updating existing VBA applications. Knowledge of VBA can be valuable in environments where Office integration is critical, though learning additional skills like Python or Power Automate can enhance career prospects.

What are the typical responsibilities of a VBA Developer working on a contract basis?

As a contract VBA Developer, your daily responsibilities often include designing, coding, and testing custom macros or automation solutions within Excel or other Microsoft Office programs to streamline business processes. You may collaborate closely with business analysts, data teams, and end users to gather requirements and ensure the solutions meet specific organizational needs. Tasks can range from fixing existing macros to developing new workflow automations and troubleshooting complex issues. Contract roles typically require you to manage your own projects, communicate progress clearly, and adapt quickly to shifting business priorities. This dynamic environment offers excellent opportunities to expand your technical skillset and gain exposure to different industries and business challenges.

Is VBA still in demand?

VBA developer roles remain in demand for automating tasks in Excel, Access, and other Microsoft Office applications, especially in finance, accounting, and data analysis sectors. While newer automation tools are emerging, VBA skills are still valuable for maintaining legacy systems and improving efficiency in many organizations.

What is a VBA Developer Contract job?

Satellite Payload Systems Engineer, Lead
The Opportunity:
Booz Allen is seeking a systems engineer with demonstrated experience in end-to-end payload development for spaceflight systems, including requirements derivation, architecture definition, subsystem integration, flight readiness verification, and thermal, vibration, and radiation environmental qualification. Preferred candidates will have contributed to payloads that have successfully completed launch and on-orbit commissioning within operational LEO, MEO, GEO, or deep space missions.
As a Satellite Payload Lead Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping next-generation space systems for national security missions. You will apply deep expertise in satellite payloads, design and test of satellites, and space mission operations to architect, model, and assess end-to-end solutions. Working closely with systems engineers, software developers, and mission domain experts, you will conduct rigorous trade studies, define system-level requirements and interfaces, and identify architecture gaps, risks, and technology opportunities critical to delivering resilient future space payloads. You will collaborate directly with government clients and industry partners to maintain awareness of emerging space architecture and contribute to technical white papers, capability demonstrations, and proposals that position our team at the forefront of mission innovation. As our portfolio expands, you will have opportunities to lead systems engineering teams across multiple efforts, driving successful delivery of advanced space systems and shaping the direction of our space business.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 3+ years of experience supporting national security space programs, specifically in SIGINT or GEOINT mission areas
  • Experience in the design, development, integration, and verification of payloads for spaceflight systems
  • Experience with space vehicle design and manufacture practices, payload integration, and proto-flight testing of space vehicle systems
  • Experience executing systems engineering processes across the full lifecycle for satellite space systems, from requirements development through operational deployment
  • Experience with descriptive modeling tools such as Cameo Enterprise Architecture or MagicDraw
  • Experience developing analytical or automation scripts using engineering toolsets such as MATLAB, Python, or VBA
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines and work in a team environment
  • Top Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience integrating COTS products into space systems
  • Experience developing high-fidelity satellite models and simulations for proliferated constellations, including orbital dynamics, payload performance, and end-to-end mission effectiveness analysis
  • Experience contributing to Agile and DevSecOps software development pipelines, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, automated testing, and secure software practices
  • Ability to architect and deliver technical solutions within classified Intelligence Community or Department of Defense environments, adhering to security, accreditation, and mission-assurance requirements
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • TS/SCI clearance

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Top Secret clearance is required.
