VB/C++ Legacy Systems Analyst

Location: Austin, Texas (Hybrid - 3 days onsite and 2 days remote)

Client: State of Texas

Exp: Minimum 12-14 years only

NOTE: Previous State Agency Experience is Not Required

Special Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in data science, business analytics, computer science, computer information systems, or management information systems.
  • 2 or more years' experience working as a data analyst and modeler in a data warehouse, data lake, operational data store, or similar.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for two years of required work experience.

Position Summary

The Data Analyst VI performs advanced analytical and business analysis work involving the interpretation, documentation, and validation of complex business logic embedded in legacy application systems. This position is responsible for independently analyzing Visual Basic (VB6/VB.NET) and C++ applications to extract, formalize, and document critical business rules that support agency operations, compliance, reporting, and modernization efforts.

General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Independently analyze complex legacy Visual Basic (VB6/VB.NET) and C++ application codebases to identify and extract business rules.
  • Reverse-engineer complex conditional logic, calculations, data transformations, and workflows.
  • Translate technical logic into clear, structured, business-readable documentation.
  • Develop and maintain standardized business rule inventories.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to validate and refine extracted rules.
  • Identify inconsistencies, duplications, or gaps in business logic.
  • Serve as liaison between business and technical teams.
  • Support modernization initiatives by separating business logic from legacy codebases.
Minimum Requirements
  • Strong experience with Visual Basic (VB6 and/or VB.NET) and C++.
  • Proven ability to analyze and reverse-engineer legacy codebases.
