Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced UNIX / VAX/VMS Server Administrator to manage, maintain, and modernize our mission critical systems. The ideal candidate has deep expertise with legacy VAX/VMS environments as well as contemporary UNIX platforms, and is comfortable supporting production workloads, troubleshooting complex issues, and guiding long term infrastructure strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
   Administer, monitor, and optimize VAX/VMS systems, including system configuration, patching, and performance tuning.
   Manage UNIX servers (e.g., Solaris, AIX, HP UX, or Linux variants) across development, test, and production environments.
   Perform system backups, disaster recovery planning, and data integrity validation.
   Troubleshoot hardware, OS, and network related issues in mixed environment infrastructures.
   Maintain system security, user access controls, and audit compliance.
   Support legacy application environments running on VAX/VMS and assist with modernization or migration initiatives.
   Document system configurations, procedures, and operational standards.
   Collaborate with application teams, network engineers, and security teams to ensure reliable service delivery.

Preferred Qualifications:
   Experience migrating legacy VAX/VMS workloads to modern platforms.
   Knowledge of configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, etc.).
   Background in regulated or high availability industries.
   5+ years of experience administering VAX/VMS systems (OpenVMS experience strongly preferred).
   5+ years of experience with UNIX administration (Solaris, AIX, HP UX, or Linux).
   Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, storage systems, and system level security.
   Experience with backup tools, clustering technologies, and high availability environments.
   Ability to script in DCL, Shell, or Perl/Python.
   Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently.
