Job Description: Head Coach Varsity

Classification: Licensed Extra Duty (One-Year Appointment)
 Reports To: Athletic Director
 FLSA Status: Exempt (Stipend)

Position Summary

The Varsity Head Coach is responsible for the leadership, organization, supervision, and development of a comprehensive interscholastic athletic program for grades 912. The Head Coach ensures student safety, promotes academic achievement, and fosters sportsmanship, integrity, and positive character development while complying with district, league, and OSAA standards.

Essential Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Establishes and communicates the system of play and program philosophy for grades 712


  • Assigns and coordinates responsibilities of assistant coaches


  • Promotes alignment and cooperation among all coaches within the program


Student Development and Academic Accountability

  • Encourages participation without undue pressure


  • Reinforces academic eligibility and conducts grade and citizenship checks


  • Promotes literacy by ensuring student understanding of rules, expectations, schedules, and written communication


Compliance and Administration

  • Ensures compliance with OSAA, league, and district rules


  • Submits eligibility reports, transfer documentation, and required forms


  • Coordinates scheduling with the Athletic Director


  • Manages program budgets responsibly


Safety, Supervision, and Welfare

  • Ensures supervision of athletes at all times


  • Files accident reports and monitors injury protocols


  • Oversees equipment care, inventory, and facility security


  • Coordinates travel, overnight events, and emergency communication


Community and Communication

  • Conducts parent meetings and communicates expectations


  • Supports publicity and promotion of the program


  • Maintains positive relationships with staff, families, and community
