GD Resources LLC is seeking experienced Journeyman Pipefitters to support facility maintenance operations at the North Texas VA Medical Center (NTXVAMC) in Dallas, Texas. The selected candidates will perform installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of complex plumbing, steam, gas, and medical utility systems supporting a major healthcare facility.
This position requires experienced professionals capable of working independently while ensuring compliance with VA requirements, industry standards, safety regulations, and applicable plumbing and mechanical codes.
Position Summary
The Journeyman Pipefitter is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of plumbing, piping, steam, gas, and medical utility systems throughout the VA medical facility.
The position supports critical healthcare infrastructure, including water distribution systems, drainage systems, steam systems, sterilization equipment, laundry and dietetic equipment, medical gas systems, and related mechanical systems.
The successful candidate must possess strong technical knowledge, the ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings, and experience performing skilled pipefitting work in commercial, industrial, institutional, or healthcare environments.
The Pipefitter will work under the general direction of a foreman while independently performing assigned tasks with periodic quality checks. The employee may also provide guidance and oversight to helpers or less experienced personnel when required.
Key Responsibilities
Pipefitting Installation and Repair

• Install, maintain, modify, and repair piping systems throughout the medical facility.
• Perform skilled pipefitting work involving:
  
  • Domestic water systems
  • Drainage systems
  • Steam distribution systems
  • Medical gas systems
  • Plumbing systems
  • Mechanical piping systems
  • Utility distribution systems
• Install and repair piping components, valves, fittings, regulators, pumps, and related equipment.
• Perform pipe layout, cutting, threading, fitting, brazing, and joining activities as required.
• Ensure piping installations meet applicable codes, safety standards, and facility requirements.

Healthcare Facility Systems Support
Maintain and repair piping and mechanical systems supporting:

• Medical sterilizers and autoclave systems.
• Laundry equipment.
• Dietetic and kitchen equipment.
• Steam systems.
• Medical gas distribution systems.
• Water supply and distribution systems.
• Drainage and waste systems.
• Building utility infrastructure.

Troubleshooting and Preventive Maintenance

• Diagnose piping and mechanical system issues.
• Perform inspections and preventive maintenance activities.
• Identify leaks, pressure issues, equipment failures, and system deficiencies.
• Repair or replace defective components.
• Maintain reliable operation of critical hospital utility systems.
• Report equipment conditions requiring additional attention.

Blueprint Reading and Technical Documentation

• Read and interpret:
  
  • Construction drawings
  • Mechanical plans
  • Blueprints
  • Piping diagrams
  • Equipment manuals
• Follow established installation procedures and technical requirements.
• Apply knowledge of applicable plumbing, mechanical, and safety codes.

Safety and Compliance

• Perform all work in accordance with:
  
  • Department of Veterans Affairs policies and procedures.
  • OSHA safety regulations.
  • Applicable plumbing and mechanical codes.
  • Facility safety requirements.
• Follow proper safety procedures when working around:
  
  • Steam systems
  • Pressurized piping
  • Medical gases
  • Chemical exposure risks
  • Healthcare environments
• Maintain a safe work environment and immediately report hazards or unsafe conditions.

Coordination and Communication
The selected Pipefitter will coordinate daily activities with VA facility personnel while remaining under the supervision and management of GD Resources LLC.
Responsibilities include:

• Reporting daily to the VA Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for work assignments.
• Coordinating scheduled work activities with VA personnel.
• Providing updates regarding progress, completed tasks, and outstanding issues.
• Completing assigned work safely and efficiently.
• Maintaining professional communication with Government personnel.

Reporting and Documentation Responsibilities
At the conclusion of each shift, the Pipefitter shall provide the COR with a summary of completed activities, including:

• Specific tasks performed.
• Preventive maintenance activities completed, including the exact system or equipment location serviced.
• Itemized list of replacement parts installed, including equipment identification information when applicable.
• Description of equipment or systems requiring additional attention.
• Name(s) of technician(s) performing the work.

Personnel must also complete daily timecards documenting all hours worked. GD Resources LLC will compile and submit time records with monthly billing documentation in accordance with contract requirements.
Work Schedule
The standard work schedule is:

• Monday through Friday
• 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
• Approximately 80 hours per pay period

Work shall be coordinated with VA personnel prior to execution to ensure proper scheduling and facility support.
Any work performed outside normal business hours must receive prior approval from the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). Overtime may only be performed when authorized in advance by the Government.

Additional holidays may apply when designated by Federal statute, Executive Order, or Presidential Proclamation.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must possess:

• Minimum four (4) years of journeyman-level pipefitting experience.
• Active Texas State Plumbing/Pipefitter License.
• Current OSHA Safety Certification.
• Experience working with commercial, industrial, institutional, or healthcare piping systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
• Knowledge of plumbing, steam, gas, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in:

• Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.
• Hospitals or healthcare facilities.
• Medical gas systems.
• Steam distribution systems.
• Sterilizer and autoclave systems.
• Industrial piping systems.
• Facility maintenance operations.

Required Core Competencies
Personnel performing services under this contract must demonstrate competency in:

Only qualified personnel with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may perform work under this assignment.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:

• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
• Lift and move heavy tools, equipment, and materials.
• Work in confined spaces, including basements, mechanical rooms, kitchens, and manholes.
• Perform work indoors and outdoors under varying conditions.
• Work around steam, water, gases, odors, and other facility-related hazards.
• Safely perform tasks requiring physical exertion and manual dexterity.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Pipefitters are required to provide and wear appropriate PPE, including:

• Arc-rated or natural fiber long-sleeve shirts and long pants.
• OSHA-approved steel-toe work boots.
• Hearing protection.
• Eye protection.
• Additional PPE required by OSHA regulations or VA safety procedures.

Training and Onboarding
Before beginning work, selected personnel will complete required VA onboarding activities, including:

• Facility safety orientation.
• Basic VA training requirements.
• Site-specific procedures.
• Any additional training required by the medical center.

Additional Contract Requirements

• Government-furnished parts, equipment, and materials will be provided unless otherwise specified.
• GD Resources LLC will maintain contractor contact information for routine and emergency communications.
• Personnel must exercise due care while working on Government property.
• Contractor personnel may be responsible for damages resulting from negligent or intentional actions.
• All work must be performed professionally, safely, and in accordance with VA quality and performance standards.
