Job description

Description Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is looking for a Project Engineer in our Kansas City, MO office to serve as an engineer on engineering/EPC projects. The Project Engineer will be responsible for successful project execution from the proposal state through project closeout. Major responsibilities for the Project Engineer will include:
  • Overall Focus/Leadership
  • Provide technical leadership, direction, and support to design team
  • Provide team level accountability for the implementation and tracking of design quality control processes and procedures utilizing all applicable QC forms and checklists.
  • Proactive coordination and communication of project requirements and schedule needs across disciplines.
  • Identify, develop, and communicate processes and tools to increase efficiency across the team and department
  • Ensure that client requirements and expectations, industry standards, and Burns & McDonnell standards are maintained
  • Communicate with the project manager regularly regarding project status and identification of challenges or concerns relating to project designs, the client, or the team
  • Identify development needs of team and mentor, coach, and develop team members (engineers, designers, drafters, admin, etc.)
  • Communicate staffing needs and employee performance to department managers
  • Create, improve, facilitate and teach training courses to the team and department
  • Project Development
  • Develop engineering scope, labor hour estimates, schedules and staffing plans
  • Develop project design criteria
  • Identify and communicate technical risks to the project
  • Project Execution
  • Ensure adherence to project plan. Proactively communicate changes to project plan with the team.
  • Maintain responsibility for interdisciplinary design coordination
  • Oversee production work required to meet deliverable milestones
  • Coordinate design change notifications with project manager
  • Provide technical leadership over construction engineering support
  • Manage vendor drawing reviews and fabrication progress
  • Monitor workload and facilitate project assignments across team
  • Communicating high risk or urgent technical issues with the client
  • Communicate and schedule necessary project resource needs
  • Perform QC reviews, as required
  • Ensure that all document sealing requirements for the project are met
  • Assist in preparation of project status reports
  • Client Engagement
  • Serve as primary technical point of contact for the client
  • Communicate all client engineering standards to the project team, including client revisions, expectations, and interpretations
  • Build relationships with key personnel at the client organization

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical engineering from an accredited program
  • Must have a minimum of five years of experience in project (engineer/construction) development and execution.
  • Experience working on underground electrical infrastructure projects
  • Professional Engineering (PE/P.Eng) registration.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with project management including:
  • Experience estimating projects
  • Experience with Critical Path Method or Resource Loaded Schedules (Microsoft Project, Primavera P6)
  • Experience with contracts and specification development.
  • Previous consulting experience.
  • Previous utility company experience.
  • Previous construction or EPC experience.
  • Previous submarine cable design and/or installation
