Job description

Farnsworth Group is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer - Energy & Utilities in the posting location below. In this role, you will lead day-to-day production and coordination for electrical design on industrial, oil & gas, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and other technically complex Energy & Utilities projects.

What You'll Do:
  • Assume multi-project responsibility for electrical design, including power distribution, controls, renewable energy systems, and medium-voltage system design.
  • Lead electrical design tasks from preliminary schematics through final design documents, including calculations, equipment sizing, layout development, and specification preparation.
  • Perform code research, evaluate existing conditions through fieldwork, and incorporate findings into practical design solutions.
  • Prepare accurate electrical construction drawings and specifications in coordination with other production staff and engineering disciplines.
  • Support power systems studies and apply study results to project design as needed.
  • Interface directly with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal teams while helping maintain project budgets, schedules, and quality expectations.
  • Participate in submittal review, construction administration, field observations, and technical issue resolution during construction.
  • Mentor engineers, designers, and drafters and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Typically, 8-12+ years of experience in technically complex electrical system design.
  • Experience with industrial power distribution, controls, medium-voltage systems, and related electrical infrastructure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically while balancing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to solve complex electrical and power engineering problems.
  • Experience in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and applicable IEEE standards.
  • Ability to complete occasional travel to client sites in support of projects.
  • Ability to satisfy client-specific site access requirements, including background checks and other facility requirements as applicable.
