Job description

Performs general duties as directed by the room operator.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivers trash and recyclables to appropriate room. Utilizes hand-operated pallet jack to take trash gondolas filled with cardboard, pallet and plastic to recycle room to be recycled. Lifts tote into bailer and turns machine on. Moves bailed product into trailer. Organizes recyclables; moves non-recycled product into appropriate bins.
Tears down totes. Turns button on tote dumper to dump product into silo. Pulls pallet from empty tote; breaks tote down. Loads into trash gondola.
Inspects product on metal detector. Visually inspects material when metal detector goes off and removes offending items.
Performs general duties as directed by the room operator. Builds totes as directed. Visually inspects labels. Moves or delivers rejected product from the line. Assembles and disassembles items as directed. Refers issues to room operator.
Performs basic cleanup. Maintains the cleanliness of the room. Ensures work area stays clean.
Assists in weekly sanitation in accordance with set procedures. Assists operators to prepare cleaning chemicals; ensure the correct concentration, and ensure the proper cleaning chemicals are loaded. Demonstrates correct lock-out tag procedures.
Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the person in the position and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position.
Physical Activities: Must be able to singularly lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand freely and move about the facility. Must be able to perform active range of motion movements as needed. Must be able to work in a cool environment (down to 40 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 8 hours. Occasional climbing stairs; simple grasping; talking; use of hearing. Constant standing; bending at the neck and waist; power grasping; pushing/pulling; reaching below shoulder level; use of vision. Inside line work around loud equipment/machinery; walking around drains, footbaths, hoses; exposure to cold; wet environment.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hard hat, safety glasses, smock and safety toed shoes.
Travel: None.
Technical Experience: Must be comfortable with personal computers. Grinding experience preferred.
Industry Experience: Preference for poultry or food manufacturing experience.
Minimum Education: Must be able to speak and comprehend the English language.
Preferred Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
