Job description

JOB TITLE: Cable Splicer Journeyman  
REQUISITION: DIS00Z2
DEPARTMENT: F&M Underground Dept
LOCATION: F&M Service Center - Kansas City, Mo
PAY: $56.14

Headquartered in both Kansas City and Topeka, Evergy employs about 4,900 people who are dedicated to empowering a better future.  We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Cable Splicer Journeyman in Kansas City, Mo.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES 
    Performs construction and maintenance work such as, but not restricted to, installing, splicing and terminating on all types of power, communication and control cable and associated equipment in the most safe, economical, and efficient manner in compliance with accepted methods and Company standards.
    Terminates and energizes cable and conductor and performs associated labor as required. Installs and maintains all equipment connected and/or related to the underground distribution system including terminal poles. May install, adjust, and remove network relays. Installs, connects, disconnects, removes and maintains services and metering equipment. Does switching as required. Uses fault locators and all other equipment and instruments used in construction, maintenance and testing on the underground system. Checks and inspects general underground system conditions. Performs necessary tests on circuits and cable and works with other classifications as required. Performs work on overhead cable requiring the specialized skills and knowledge of a Cable Splicer and performs work on overhead street lights.
    Drives company vehicles and operates heavy equipment as required.
    Makes written reports as necessary.
    Performs similar and related work consistent with the general nature of the job classification.

EDUCATION:  High School or equivalent 

EXPERIENCE:  Candidates who have not performed the work of Journeyman Cable Splicer at Evergy must be able to document successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for Journeyman Cable Splicer or have a minimum of two years' work experience as a Journeyman Cable Splicer.  Experience must include documented, satisfactory performance of all standard tasks and responsibilities of a distribution Cable Splicer working for a public electrical utility and/or recognized utility contracting company.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Must be able to perform all essential job functions as identified by the Company.  Reasonable accommodations may be made upon request to enable an individual with a disability to perform the essential functions.
GENERAL:  Must possess/maintain a Class B CDL and be able to acquire a Class A CDL within 90 days of employment.  Must be D.O.T certified as required by federal law
