Summary of Responsibilities:
Lead, develop, and empower teams that safeguard tax integrity and enable confident business decisions.
As the Tax & Asset Accounting leader, your primary impact comes through people leadership. You will lead and develop the teams responsible for ATC's tax strategy, compliance, and tax accounting/reporting, as well as the leaders supporting asset and project accounting. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives on coaching others, setting clear direction, and building strong, accountable teams-while also bringing the technical credibility needed to partner with executives in a regulated utility environment and is a great development opportunity for future executive positions at ATC.
Success in this role is defined not only by technical outcomes, but by your ability to grow talent, strengthen leadership capability, and create clarity and confidence across the organization.
Essential Responsibilities:
What you'll do
Lead people and build leadership capability
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Tax & Asset Accounting teams, including team leads and individual contributors, with a strong focus on engagement, performance, and career growth.

  • Create an environment of trust and accountability by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and addressing performance issues directly and constructively.

  • Develop team capability by identifying skill gaps, supporting development plans, and preparing future leaders.

  • Balance workloads and priorities across teams to meet deadlines while supporting sustainable performance and employee well-being.

Set direction and align work to business priorities
  • Translate company and finance objectives into clear team goals and priorities, ensuring work is aligned, understood, and executed effectively.

  • Establish consistent processes, controls, and operating rhythms that enable teams to deliver high-quality work with confidence.

  • Lead through change by helping teams adopt new processes, tools, and ways of working as the business and regulatory environment evolves.

Partner with executives and key stakeholders
  • Serve as a trusted leader and advisor to executive management on tax policy, strategic tax planning, and tax risk.

  • Represent ATC with confidence when working with external auditors, national accounting firms, and senior tax leaders of ATC's owners.

  • Act as a key liaison across departments to ensure accurate, timely, and well-communicated tax and project accounting information.

Ensure strong compliance, controls, and governance
  • Oversee tax compliance, tax accounting, and reporting activities in accordance with GAAP, FERC regulation, and ATC requirements.

  • Lead federal, state, and FERC tax audits, guiding teams through preparation, execution, and response to audit findings.

  • Maintain strong internal audit controls for Tax and Project Accounting, ensuring appropriate design, execution, and continuous improvement.

Guide asset and project accounting practices
  • Provide leadership and oversight for project accounting policies and practices, including work order governance, capitalization guidance, project unitization, and cash forecasting.

  • Partner with project and finance leaders to support accurate budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and in-service planning.

  • Promote understanding and consistency in project accounting treatment through collaboration and education across the organization.

What you bring
People leadership experience (required)
  • 4+ years of experience leading teams, with demonstrated success coaching, developing, and empowering employees.

  • Proven ability to set priorities, manage workloads, and lead teams through complex, deadline-driven work.

  • Strong leadership presence and communication skills, with experience engaging confidently with executives and senior stakeholders.

  • A track record of building trust, holding teams accountable, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Technical foundation
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a Law Degree with a concentration in Tax.

  • 7+ years of combined experience in tax planning, tax research, tax compliance, tax accounting, and asset accounting.

  • Experience with partnership taxation and tax research tools such as Bloomberg BNA or Checkpoint.

  • Experience with tax systems such as GoSystems, OneSource, or Corptax.

  • Working knowledge of utility plant accounting, construction project lifecycles, and cost recovery concepts.

Preferred qualifications
  • CPA, MBA, MST, or JD/Taxation.

  • Experience with PowerPlan.

  • Experience in a regulated utility environment.
