JOB SUMMARY The Mail/Messenger is responsible for sorting and distributing incoming and inter-office mail and parcels for all departments in the hospital and delivering on scheduled rounds. Prepares outgoing mail and parcels for pickup daily, and prints parcel package shipping reports. Serves as support to direct activities ensuring courier special requests are completed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Sorts and distributes incoming and inter-office correspondence/envelopes and memos to sorting bins or routes throughout the hospital. Sorts and distributes inter-office correspondence/envelopes throughout the network for centralized delivery process. Prepares outgoing first class and bulk mail for outsource mail processor or by use of postage metering device and ensures that the mail is brought to the pickup location at the right time daily to insure same day posting of all outgoing mail. Prepares parcel packages (UPS, Federal Express, USPS) for outgoing pick-up on a daily basis. Prints parcel package-shipping reports daily. Acts as primary resource for copier operation and paper refill for the machine located in the mailroom/hall corridor and supplies for that copier.. Responds in a timely manner to calls for special courier and messenger requests as it relates to mail parcel package processing. Stays current with office moves or change of location of all staff to insure proper mail routing. Monitors postage balances on all accts and machines and request funds when needed. Meets productivity /work standards while demonstrating competency in job skills and knowledge by completing scheduled work in allotted timeframe Fosters an environment of PDCA in their daily work activities. Key member and supporter of PEX activities and lean training. Perform on-line tracking of parcel on request. Answer courier request calls and dispatch assignments as needed. Monitors and verifies postage due and business reply charges to actual letter piece count. Covers dispatch function for in-town couriers, documenting all requests and expediting stats as requested. Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations. Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development, and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs. Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization's Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors. Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager or department head.

Assist with answering phone for customer requests Forwards address correction to appropriate departments. Completes and forwards cost allocations for postage for finance monthly.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

1. High school diploma or certificate required.

None Special Skills and Competencies: Must be dependable and able to work flexible hours Must be able to plan and organize work duties and be alert to safety hazards.

Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.

Completes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.

Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

Completes Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

Completes Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

Completes MANDT Training within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.

Completes Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
