User Experience Project Manager information

What does a User Experience Project Manager do?

A User Experience (UX) Project Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of projects focused on improving the usability and user satisfaction of digital products or services. They work closely with UX designers, researchers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet user needs. Their responsibilities often include setting project timelines, managing resources, facilitating communication, and ensuring that user-centered design principles are followed throughout the project lifecycle. By bridging the gap between UX teams and other departments, UX Project Managers help create seamless and effective user experiences.

How does a User Experience Project Manager typically collaborate with designers, developers, and stakeholders during a project lifecycle?

A User Experience Project Manager acts as the central point of coordination between UX designers, developers, and stakeholders throughout a project's lifecycle. They facilitate regular communication to ensure design objectives align with technical constraints and business goals, often leading meetings, sharing feedback, and tracking progress. This role requires balancing user needs with project timelines and resources, addressing any roadblocks, and making sure each team member understands their responsibilities. Effective collaboration is essential for delivering cohesive and user-centered solutions on schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a User Experience Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a User Experience Project Manager, you need expertise in UX principles, project management methodologies, and experience with cross-functional team leadership, often supported by a degree in design, human-computer interaction, or related fields. Familiarity with project management tools (like Jira, Asana), wireframing/prototyping tools (such as Figma or Sketch), and certifications like PMP or Agile/Scrum are highly beneficial. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you guide teams and balance user needs with business goals. These skills ensure user-centered project delivery, timely execution, and alignment between technical, design, and business objectives.

Purpose: We are seeking an experienced IT Project Manager with strong SQL expertise to lead cross-functional technology initiatives involving data-driven systems, integrations, and enterprise platforms. This role is responsible for managing the full project lifecycle while leveraging SQL knowledge to support data analysis, reporting, and system integration efforts. The ideal candidate combines structured project governance with hands-on technical understanding of databases and data flows.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead planning, execution, and delivery of software and application development projects, defining scope, milestones, and success criteria with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate work across developers, QA, product owners, and business stakeholders, ensuring alignment on priorities and managing dependencies.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, standups, reviews, retrospectives) or structured status meetings as appropriate for each project.
  • Create and maintain project plans, roadmaps, and release schedules; track progress against timelines and budgets and escalate risks proactively.
  • Use SQL at a basic to intermediate level to review data models, validate reports, and understand issues related to application data, without owning database development.
  • Support continuous improvement of project delivery practices, encouraging feedback and process refinement within the teams
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across IT, business units, and vendors to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Coordinate system integrations involving APIs, data pipelines, and enterprise applications
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5+ years of experience managing software or application development projects in an IT or product environment.
  • Working knowledge of SQL (ability to write and interpret basic queries, joins, and filters) to support analysis and communication, not full-time development.
  • Experience with Agile or hybrid project delivery (Scrum, Kanban, or similar) and familiarity with common SDLC phases.
  • Proficiency with project tracking tools (Jira or similar) and collaboration platforms
  • Strong skills in project planning, scheduling, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
  • Experience managing projects involving databases, system integrations, or data platforms

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working with cross-functional software teams (engineering, QA, product, UX, operations) in an enterprise or SaaS environment.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern software delivery practices (CI/CD, DevOps concepts) from a project management perspective.
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP, PMI-ACP, Certified Scrum Master, or equivalent.
  • Experience managing data-focused or reporting/BI projects where SQL is a common tool for the team.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business terms
  • High attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities
