Overview
Microsoft's commercial web team is evolving how customers discover, evaluate, and engage with Microsoft products and solutions across the web. We're building scalable, customer-centered experiences that connect design, content, data, and AI capabilities to create more intuitive and effective digital journeys.
We're looking for a Senior UX Director to lead the commercial web UX function and shape the strategy, governance, and evolution of Microsoft's global commercial web experience. This leader will own the UX vision across high-impact customer journeys, scale the commercial web design system, and guide the next generation of AI-assisted and personalized web experiences across Microsoft's commercial portfolio.
This role is ideal for a leader who brings design judgment, systems thinking, and people leadership, and who is energized by solving complex customer journey challenges at enterprise scale. You should be comfortable leading senior talent, influencing across disciplines, and balancing long-term design strategy with near-term business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Define and lead the UX vision for Microsoft's commercial web experience, aligning customer needs, business priorities, AI-assisted experiences, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Own the evolution and governance of the commercial web design system, including templates, components, UX patterns, accessibility standards, AI experience guidance, and integration with broader Microsoft web experience initiatives.
  • Lead, coach, and grow a multidisciplinary UX organization, creating clarity, accountability, and a high-performing culture across full-time employees (FTE), vendor, and agency design talent.
  • Drive UX strategy for emerging AI-assisted experiences, evolving search behaviors, and personalized customer journeys that improve discoverability, engagement, conversion, and customer experience quality.
  • Establish scalable UX standards and decision frameworks that help teams prioritize highest-impact web experiences, resolve tradeoffs, and improve consistency across the commercial web ecosystem.
  • Use customer insight, experimentation, telemetry, and business performance data to guide UX investments and demonstrate customer and business impact.
  • Influence senior stakeholders and cross-functional leaders to align on UX priorities, roadmap decisions, and experience quality expectations across Microsoft's commercial web portfolio.

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Interaction Design, Visual Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field AND 7+ years in UX, product design, or digital experience, including leadership of large-scale web, platform, or design system initiatives , or related work experience
    • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Interaction Design, Visual Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years in UX, product design, or digital experience, including leadership of large-scale web, platform, or design system initiatives, or related experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Interaction Design, Visual Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field AND 9+ years in UX, product design, or digital experience, including leadership of large-scale web, platform, or design system initiatives, or related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading and developing multidisciplinary design teams, including senior individual contributors, managers, vendors, or agency partners in complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders, resolving cross-functional tradeoffs, and aligning teams across product marketing, engineering, analytics, content, search engine optimization (SEO), brand, and business functions.
  • Experience translating complex customer, business, and technical requirements into clear UX strategy
  • Experience building or scaling design systems, templates, or UX standards across large digital ecosystems.
  • Experience improving digital experiences through data, experimentation, customer research, telemetry, and business outcome measurement.
  • Experience with AI-enabled experiences and evolving search or discovery behaviors in digital environments.
  • Experience operating in global enterprise, consulting, agency, or matrixed environments with multiple senior stakeholders and competing business priorities.

Integrated Marketing M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $155,800 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,400 - $303,600 per year.
