The UI/UX Designer Intern works as part of a product team to transform business ideas, workflows, and user needs into simple, intuitive, and tangible digital experiences.

This is not a traditional website or graphic-design internship. The UI/UX Designer Intern learns how users perform their work, identifies opportunities to simplify their interactions, and helps design experiences that make complex processes easier to understand and complete.

Using modern design and AI-assisted prototyping tools, interns rapidly turn ideas into highly interactive and increasingly functional prototypes. These prototypes allow users and stakeholders to experience potential solutions early rather than relying solely on static designs or documentation, dramatically shortening the time between an idea, a tangible experience, user feedback, and eventual implementation.

The UI/UX Designer Intern works alongside Product Owners, AI Software Engineers, business stakeholders, and experienced Design resources to learn how effective digital products move from idea to experience to working software.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work with Product Owners, engineers, business partners, and users to understand business problems, workflows, and user needs.
  • Translate business processes, user needs, and product ideas into intuitive user flows and digital experiences.
  • · Create user flows, interaction models, screen designs, and interactive prototypes.
  • · Use modern design and AI-assisted prototyping tools to rapidly move from an idea to an experience users can see and interact with.
  • · Create functional prototypes that allow stakeholders and users to meaningfully experience and evaluate potential solutions.
  • Look for opportunities to remove unnecessary steps, simplify decisions, reduce cognitive load, and improve usability.
  • Challenge existing user experiences rather than simply reproducing existing screens or workflows.
  • Observe how users perform their work and incorporate those observations into design decisions.
  • Explore multiple approaches to solving user problems and rapidly iterate based on feedback.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to visualize potential solutions during process discovery and early product development.
  • Partner with AI Software Engineers to help translate validated experiences into production applications.
  • Learn and apply reusable design patterns and contribute to the organization's design system.
  • Consider accessibility, responsive behavior, consistency, and usability throughout the design process.
  • Present and demonstrate prototypes to users, stakeholders, and team members.

To perform this role successfully, an individual should demonstrate creativity, empathy for users, problem-solving ability, and an interest in using emerging technologies to create better digital experiences.

Skills Required

  • Ability to think about complex processes from the perspective of the person performing them.
  • Curiosity about user behavior and an instinct for simplifying complex interactions.
  • Ability to think beyond existing screens and workflows to imagine simpler ways for users to accomplish an outcome.
  • Strong visual and conceptual communication skills.
  • Interest in creating interactive and functional prototypes rather than only static visual designs.
  • Familiarity with modern UI/UX design or prototyping tools.
  • Interest in AI-assisted design and prototyping tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work through ambiguous concepts and rapidly explore potential solutions.
  • Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work both independently and collaboratively with business and technical partners.

Education & Experience

  • Pursuing a 4-year college degree in User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Visual Communication Design, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with design and prototyping tools such as Figma or similar platforms.
  • Experience with AI-assisted design or prototyping tools is a plus but not required.
  • Coursework, personal projects, portfolios, or other examples demonstrating an interest in user experience and problem-solving are preferred.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and positions are open until filled (this may be prior to the job posting expiration date).
