Job Summary:
This position is based out of Tampa, FL.
The Chief Engineer is the head of the Engineering Department. They will supervise and coordinate the work activities of the engineering department and crew engaged in operating and maintaining propulsion equipment, engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, refrigeration, and sanitary equipment for both the tug and barge. Oversee the installation and repair of systems and equipment on board by outside contractors.
Responsibilities/Job Duties
  • Responsible for engineering personnel and operating and maintaining the vessel's machinery, including engines, generators, pumps, and refrigeration systems.
  • Performing regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on mechanical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting engineering systems to identify and resolve any issues that may arise during the voyage.
  • Following safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for the crew and the vessel's cargo.
  • Collaborating with other crew members to coordinate operational activities and ensure smooth functioning of the vessel.

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • USCG Merchant Mariner Credential, international and national endorsements capable of foreign voyages.
    Note: Submit a copy of your current MMC with your online application.
  • USCG Merchant Mariner Credential international and national endorsements:
    • Must hold the following International STCW Endorsements:
      • OICEW (STCW III/1),
      • RFPEW (STCW III/4),
      • STCW Basic Safety Training (STCW VI/1),
      • Proficiency in the use of survival craft (PSC) (STCW VI/2) is preferred.
      • Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW VI/3),
      • First Aid and Medical Care Provider (STCW VI/4),
      • Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD) (STCW VI/6),
    • Must hold the following National Endorsements:
      • Chief Engineer Limited (preferred),
      • QMED rating,
      • Ordinary Seaman,
      • Wiper,
      • Steward's Department (F.H.),
      • Tankerman PIC - Dangerous Liquid (DL) Cargoes endorsement
  • Must hold a valid USCG/STCW medical certificate.
  • Must hold a valid TWIC card and U.S. Passport
  • Familiarity with EMD 645's and Detroit 8V71 Generators is preferred.

Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma
  • Five years' experience as Chief preferred
  • ABS Nautical Systems NS5 experience preferred

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to work in confined spaces, carrying heavy tools, climbing and descending ladders, and consistently asked to lift and carry loads at least 40 pounds
  • Must have current USCG STCW Medical Certificate, renewed every 2 years
