Job description

For over seven decades investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and others have entrusted their electrical construction and maintenance needs to Davis H. Elliot Company, Inc. (Elliot).
Elliot is a full-service electrical contractor specializing in overhead and underground distribution, transmission, substations, lighting, traffic signaling, utility locating and industrial/commercial services.
Job Description
We are seeking experienced Substation Journeyman Tech to join our construction team. This position involves hands-on work with high-voltage systems, supporting construction, upgrades, and maintenance projects while ensuring safety, quality, and reliability of critical power infrastructure. As part of the day-to-day responsibilities, you will be completing the following:
  • Install, maintain, and repair substation equipment and systems
  • Assist with construction of new substations and upgrades
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project plans.
  • Work on and around:
    • Structural steel (equipment supports, bus structures)
    • Foundations and grounding systems
    • Conduit, cable trench, and duct bank systems
    • Bus work and rigid/flexible bus installation
    • Equipment setting (transformers, breakers, switches, control cabinets)
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and energized work protocols
  • Conduct pre-job briefings and adhere to all safety standards
  • Identify and report hazards, defects, or installation issues
  • Work closely with foremen, engineers, and other crew members

Qualifications
  • Minimum 3-7+ years of substation construction experience.
  • Journeyman-level experience in electrical construction or utilities
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Substation equipment and systems
    • Electrical installation practices and safety procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety standards.
  • Ability to operate construction equipment as needed.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Own your own hand tools
  • Must be able to learn from On-the-Job training and work well with others
Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screening
