As of Jul 19, 2026, the average yearly pay for urgently hiring fpga programming in the United States is $88,946.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $62,500.00 and $116,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How much do FPGA programmers make?

FPGA programmers typically earn between $80,000 and $130,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in hardware description languages like VHDL or Verilog can command higher salaries, especially in high-demand sectors such as telecommunications and aerospace.

What is the difference between Urgently Hiring Fpga Programming vs FPGA Design Engineer?

AspectUrgently Hiring Fpga ProgrammingFPGA Design Engineer
Required SkillsVHDL/Verilog, FPGA tools, debuggingVHDL/Verilog, FPGA tools, hardware design
Work EnvironmentFast-paced, project-basedDesign-focused, development labs
CertificationsOften not required, but helpfulSame certifications, like Certified FPGA Engineer
Industry UsageImmediate hiring for ongoing projectsLong-term design roles in tech/telecom

Urgently Hiring Fpga Programming roles focus on quick deployment and troubleshooting FPGA code, often requiring rapid onboarding. FPGA Design Engineers typically work on developing and optimizing FPGA architectures for long-term projects. Both roles require similar technical skills but differ in urgency, scope, and project timelines.

What is FPGA programming?

FPGA programming involves configuring Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), which are integrated circuits that can be customized after manufacturing to perform specific logic functions. Programmers use hardware description languages like VHDL or Verilog to describe the desired hardware behavior, which is then synthesized and loaded onto the FPGA. This allows for rapid prototyping, hardware acceleration, and implementing custom digital circuits for various applications, such as signal processing, communications, and embedded systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an FPGA Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an FPGA Programmer, you need a solid background in digital logic design, hardware description languages (such as VHDL or Verilog), and a relevant degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering. Familiarity with industry-standard FPGA development tools (like Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus), simulation software, and sometimes certifications in FPGA technologies are commonly expected. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and troubleshoot complex design issues. These skills and qualifications are essential for developing reliable, high-performance hardware solutions that meet project requirements and deadlines.

Are FPGA engineers in demand?

FPGA engineers are in high demand due to the increasing use of FPGAs in industries such as telecommunications, aerospace, and data centers. Skills in hardware description languages like VHDL or Verilog, along with experience in FPGA development tools, enhance job prospects in this field.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced FPGA engineers or senior hardware engineers working in specialized industries such as aerospace, defense, or high-frequency trading can earn salaries around or exceeding $500,000 annually. These roles typically require advanced skills in FPGA programming, VHDL or Verilog, and often involve leadership responsibilities or working in high-stakes environments. Compensation varies based on experience, location, and company size.

Is FPGA going to be replaced by AI?

FPGA programming remains a specialized skill used in applications requiring low latency and hardware customization. While AI can automate some design tasks, FPGAs are likely to continue being relevant for real-time processing, embedded systems, and high-performance computing, requiring FPGA programmers to adapt and incorporate AI tools into their workflows.

What are some common challenges faced by FPGA programmers when working on urgent or time-sensitive projects?

FPGA programmers working under urgent deadlines often face challenges such as quickly understanding complex hardware requirements, optimizing code for both speed and resource utilization, and debugging issues within limited timeframes. Collaboration with hardware engineers and verification teams is crucial, as last-minute design changes or integration issues can arise. Effective communication, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills are essential to meet tight project milestones while maintaining high-quality results.

FPGA Verification Engineer - Avionics

E-Space

Saratoga, CA

$150K - $250K/yr

Full-time

Medical, PTO

Re-posted 18 days ago

Job description

Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you've come to the right place!

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.

We're intentional, we're unapologetically curious and we're 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.

We are hiring FPGA Verification Engineers to build and maintain the verification infrastructure for satellite avionics FPGA designs. You will develop UVM-based testbenches, create coverage-driven verification plans, and ensure RTL correctness for flight-critical FPGA firmware across multiple subsystems. This role is instrumental in establishing a rigorous verification methodology for the program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop UVM-based verification environments including agents, scoreboards, and bit-accurate reference models.
  • Create and maintain a reusable, extendable UVM framework supporting multiple FPGA targets and device configurations.
  • Write verification plans derived from requirements specifications and architectural documents.
  • Develop functional coverage models and drive coverage closure for all FPGA designs.
  • Perform RTL simulation using industry-standard tools.
  • Implement clock-domain crossing verification and timing/stability analysis.
  • Apply lint and static-analysis tools to identify design issues early in the development cycle.
  • Support hardware bring-up by creating tests that model and recreate hardware interactions in simulation.
  • Document verification results, coverage metrics, and test plans with clear technical writing.
  • Collaborate with FPGA designers and system engineers to refine requirements and close verification gaps.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in FPGA or ASIC verification.
  • Strong expertise in SystemVerilog and UVM-based verification methodology.
  • Experience building UVM agents, environments, and generating constrained-random stimulus.
  • Proficiency with at least one industry-standard RTL simulator.
  • Understanding of functional coverage techniques and coverage-driven verification.
  • Ability to read and understand PCB schematics and hardware interfaces for test development.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience verifying designs for space, aerospace, or high-reliability applications.
  • Familiarity with formal verification tools.
  • Background in embedded software interaction with FPGA firmware.
  • Experience with continuous integration workflows for verification regressions.
  • Proficiency in Python, TCL, or shell scripting for test automation and infrastructure.
  • Exposure to DFMEA and high-reliability digital design review processes.
Tools & Technologies:
  • Industry-standard RTL simulators (e.g., VCS, QuestaSim, or equivalent)
  • UVM verification methodology
  • Lint and CDC analysis tools
  • Python/TCL scripting for automation
$150,000 - $250,000 a year
