We are seeking a Environmental Project Manager to join our team in Upstate NY. This is a role for a strategic thinker who understands that navigating the regulatory landscape energy isn't just about compliance-it's about building a better, more resilient future for our local communities.

What You'll Do
  • Regulatory Landscape: Act as the primary lead for regulatory permitting under the  Article VIII, Article 15, and Article 24 process. You will navigate the permitting process for major renewable generation, and substation and transmission projects. This also includes, NEPA, SEQRA, and CWA permits.
  • Agency Coordination: Coordinate with regulatory agencies: ORES, NYSDEC, USACE, USFWS, and other local agencies.
  • Manage Complex Portfolios: Oversee environmental and utility projects ranging from linear construction and substations to renewable energy integrations.
  • Technical Excellence: Review and prepare high-level technical reports, permits, and construction documents, ensuring they meet the "True" standard of excellence.
  • Build the Practice: Leverage your existing relationships within the Upstate NY energy sector to identify and pursue new opportunities.
  • Community Advocacy: Lead mandatory pre-application stakeholder consultations. You'll be the face of the project, turning complex regulations into human conversations with town supervisors and local stakeholders.
  • Mentorship: Lead and inspire junior staff, fostering a culture of ownership and helping the next generation of "Doers" become "Sellers."
Required Expertise
  • Article VIII: Direct experience with the Office of Renewable Energy Siting and Electric Transmission (ORES) and the 16 NYCRR Part 1100 procedures.
  • Energy Experience: Has overseen environmental, ecological, and/or natural resources studies in upstate New York.
  • GHG Reporting: Knowledge of the 2026 Mandatory GHG Reporting (6 NYCRR Part 253) for fuel suppliers and electric power entities.
  • Agricultural Sensitivity: Experience navigating Agrivoltaics and the 2026 Farmland Conservation Fees for projects on prime Upstate soils.
  • Local Roots: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Ecology or a related field, with 7-15+ years of experience in the NY utility and regulatory space.
Preferred Expertise
  • The "North Star" Mindset: A proven track record of managing complex environmental obligations and navigating the unique regulatory hurdles of Upstate NY.
  • Technical Credentials: PE or PG licensure is preferred.
  • Radical Candor: The ability to communicate with regulators and stakeholders with honesty, integrity, and clarity.
