Job description

Join a team of skilled professionals dedicated to ensuring the reliability and performance of critical power systems. As a UPS Technician 3 (Traveling), you will play a key role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and related battery systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, lead teams, and contribute to the success of clients across multiple locations. The role is ideal for experienced technicians who thrive in dynamic environments and are committed to delivering high-quality service.

Responsibilities
  • Perform startups, certifications, preventative maintenance, and scheduled maintenance for UPS and battery systems.
  • Lead and execute UPS replacements and new installations with minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair all types of UPS systems, including emergency repairs, ensuring minimal disruption to clients.
  • Install, commission, and start up UPS systems and related equipment.
  • Supervise and guide teams of varying skill levels on job sites, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Collaborate effectively with general contractors, subcontractors, partners, and clients.
  • Operate equipment such as UPS systems, battery systems, PDUs, ATS, and AC/DC rectifiers safely and efficiently.
  • Assess manpower and material requirements for maintenance and installation services.
  • Estimate consumables and connectivity parts needed for project completion.
  • Monitor crew productivity and safety, taking action when necessary to maintain a safe and effective work environment.
  • Foster a positive team environment and demonstrate leadership and sound judgment.
  • Train and mentor less experienced technicians, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate communication and documentation with co-workers, management, and clients.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Services Management.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience servicing UPS systems.
  • Electrical and mechanical experience with UPS systems, DC systems, and familiarity with OEMs such as Eaton, Mitsubishi, Schneider, APC, GE, and Emerson.
  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools including digital multimeters, amp clamps, phase rotation meters, power quality analyzers, IR cameras, and oscilloscopes.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC theory, electronic components, and circuitry.
  • Competency in series, parallel, and series-parallel connections.
  • Understanding of torque values, torque-mark application, and visual inspection of installations.
  • Ability to operate isolation devices and use appropriate PPE, including Arc-Flash suits.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour certification, NFPA-70E Safety Training, and Thermography Level 2 or higher.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
