Mission Statement

Primary Purpose:
The Dean of College Prep serves as an integral member of the high school leadership team to craft, refine, and execute the vision, mission, and goals of the school. This role will oversee the Road to College and Career (RTCC) and academic advisory program at the campus level. As a member of the campus leadership team, the Dean of College Prep will work with the CMO RTCC team in planning and implementing the Uplift Education RTCC Program. The Dean of College Prep is instrumental in supporting students in their preparation for college, their college matriculation process and their journey through college which will culminate with their college graduation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Campus Leadership:
The Dean is responsible for providing support in creating and implementing the vision for the school.
  • Support the implementation of the strategic vision for the school that aligns with network priorities
  • Maintain a shared vision of success across staff members and scholars
  • Actively monitor progress towards school targets and goals and support implementation of the aligned strategies to drive towards achieving the school's vision of success
  • Maintain and support a culture of continuous improvement

Road to College and Career Leadership:
  • Manage, coach and develop the College Counselor(s), Academic Counselor(s), and a portfolio of teachers/staff members on the campus, as applicable
  • Plan, implement and evaluate campus level college matriculation and alumni support programs that will fulfill Uplift's mission to increase college exposure, create and maintain comprehensive college matriculation, and support alumni through college
  • Directly manage campus level RTCC team who are responsible for leading advising, counseling and tracking progress of the current high school students and ensuring college enrollment for alumni
  • Review high school transcripts and ensure students meet credit requirements for graduation
  • Lead efforts for credit recovery and academic intervention for students in need of additional support
  • Oversee the testing plan and implementation of standardized tests and test prep for the ACT and the TSIA2 on the campus level
  • Help Uplift students gain admission to his/her best fit college
  • Ensure the affordability of Uplift's students' college options
  • Increase college persistence and graduation rates for Uplift students
  • Collaborate with campus faculty and staff, CMO RTCC team, and other campus's RTCC teams throughout the year
  • Research, establish and maintain long-term relationships within the college admissions area, including, but not limited to, college admissions counselors, directors, and diversity outreach centers
  • Work closely with the RTCC team on the campus and at CMO to coordinate and facilitate various informational college-centered workshops for parents, students, and staff
  • Collaborate with a variety of campus and CMO stakeholders to execute the campus culture and data components of the Learn and Earn Scholarship program.
  • Responsible for data management, such as, but not limited to, maintaining college admissions, financial aid, academic, standardized test data on the campus level using PowerSchool, SchooLinks and excel and reporting it to campus leaders and CMO when requested
  • Identify, research, and acquire programs, products, and resources necessary to improve efficiency and productivity of the RTCC program on the campus level
  • Maintain and encourage a positive attitude towards the RTCC program
  • Additional projects and areas as determined by the Managing Director of Road to College and Career and/or the Academic Director/Head of Schools

Instructional Leadership (Coaching, Planning & Management):
The Dean is responsible for providing instructional leadership and managing instructional outcomes for a portfolio of teachers and teams, aligned to Uplift's IB vision for excellence.
  • Coach and develop a portfolio of teachers/staff members
  • Observe teachers/staff members regularly and provide targeted feedback
  • Collaborate with teams to plan and regularly share feedback
  • Monitor progress of teams in portfolio through relevant data analysis at frequent check points
  • Create, deliver, and/or coordinate professional development sessions in line with campus priorities
  • Analyze school, teacher, and scholar data, plan course corrections, and facilitate data meetings with teams

People Management and Development:
The Dean is a people developer and manager, responsible for all aspects of the talent lifecycle for a portfolio of staff members.
  • Interview, recommend for hire and onboard candidates for open positions
  • Define expectations and goals for staff performance across all areas (instructional strategies, classroom management, professional conduct, communication, etc.)
  • Provide day to day feedback and coaching (performance/technical and developmental) to staff
  • Serve as a thought partner and guide for planning professional development for direct reports aligned to developmental goals
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct rigorous performance evaluations based on continuous improvement and accountability for results

Professional Learning and Growth:
The Dean is responsible for acting professionally and ethically at all times, while relentlessly pursuing continuous improvement.
  • Model and demonstrate the highest standards of professional conduct, ethical principles and integrity in decision making, actions and behaviors
  • Seek and engage in learning opportunities to develop holistically as leader (technical skill development, adaptive leadership development, cultural development)
  • Attend and participate in network leadership meetings, academies, conferences, as applicable
  • Implement practices learned at professional development, monitor and evaluate implementation for effectiveness, and share findings with network leaders

Administrative Functions:
The Dean will support the school with various administrative functions based on experience and need.
  • Assist the School Director in managing resources (people, financial) effectively to support school and organizational goals
  • Create and monitor systems for scholar and teacher management
  • Support in the planning of daily school activities - class schedules, teacher assignments, extracurricular schedule, event schedule, substitute coverage, staff/family newsletters, duties (carline/lunch), testing support, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position supervises the Campus College Counselor(s), Campus Academic Counselor(s), and a portfolio of teachers, as needed.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)
Education & Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Master's degree is desirable but not required.
  • Valid teaching certification and/or principal certificate in the State of Texas is preferred but not required.
  • Experience Requirements:
  • Educational experience at the 9th - 12th grade level is required.
  • Previous experience in an Academic and/or College Counselor role at the Secondary or College level and experience leading adults, is preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • A belief in Uplift Education's mission, values and operating norms and a commitment to living them daily.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, strategies, goals, and objectives of public education.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to read, analyze, and apply common sense understanding.
  • Ability to analyze complex student achievement data and proficiency in supporting teachers with analysis and adjustment of instructional plans in response to data.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, and execute academic programming and other initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively analyze, address and solve complex problems and develop creative and appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to engage sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds and interact with a broad range of stakeholders with different interests and needs.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications is required. Working knowledge of common educational technology and IB digital platforms is preferred.
  • Ability to travel via auto and air to support students.
