Where You’ll Work:

The Y12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, TN, plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. Y-12 provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to produce components, subassemblies, and quality evaluations to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce the threat from weapons of mass destruction; supply nuclear material to the Naval Reactors Program; and provide solutions to other emerging national security challenges. Y-12 has developed state-of-the-art capabilities in three core areas: nuclear technology and materials, security and consequence management, and manufacturing and technical services. Y-12 lends its specialized expertise to other federal agencies, such as the U.S. Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, state and local governments, and private-sector companies. Projects at Y-12 include providing protective equipment to soldiers in combat, training National Guard units for radiological emergencies, and creating machining platforms that improve production and efficiency.

About the Role:

UPF Engineering Process Commissioning Specialist will be responsible for ensuring validation and implementation of UPF safety basis and technical design requirements in preparation for readiness. Candidate Duties will include, but not be limited to:


Responsibilities:

  • Technical adequacy review of safety basis and safety basis support documents.
  • Technical adequacy review of drawings, specifications and other design documents that implement safety basis requirements.
  • Validation and verification of implementation of technical design requirements in drawings, specifications and other design documents.
  • Verifying results of acceptance testing to ensure that design criteria and safety basis requirements are adequately demonstrated.
  • Lead facility and systems operational readiness by preparation and verification of readiness affirmation evidence packages.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program. [Chemistry, Physics, or related] AND a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., B.S. degree in engineering or related scientific major; 2 years job-related and 1 year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Successful drug screening.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.
  • Requires a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in coordinating engineering effort.
  • Demonstrated technical capabilities, leadership, and work ethic.
  • Ability to work in a project team environment and communicate well with other disciplines, customers, and stakeholders.


Location/Work Arrangement:

  • This position is a fully onsite position at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
  • Schedule is full-time, Monday – Friday 40-hour week.
