Job description

We are hiring: Security Support Specialist - Alpha House
Starting wage: $18.00-$20.00/hour, DOE.
Job type: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Standard Hours: 11am-7pm Monday-Friday; some flexibility needed at times for transports and other needs, to be discussed at interview and/or offer stage.
Training: Alternatives provides thorough orientation and training for all new staff.
You can expect a one-week orientation, where you will learn all about Alternatives and be prepared for taking on your role.
After completing orientation, you will undergo a one-week specialized training for your role, in conjunction with an HR trainer.
These first two weeks are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, you will then move into your offered schedule after that.
Required Skills for the Security Support Specialist Position
The Security Support Specialist is an integral part of our security team. Key requirements and traits for success in this role include:
  • Firm, fair, and consistent boundaries with residents.
  • Empathy and the ability to understand and share the feelings of others.
  • Customer service skills to effectively interact with residents and staff.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including Days, Swings, and Over-Night shifts, as we are a 24/7 facility.
  • Ability to work with offenders and handle tasks such as transporting, restraining, and transferring them as needed.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Must-Haves:
  • High School Diploma.
  • Ability to pass federal drug testing and a background check.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to be added to the Agency's insurance.

What You Will Do in This Position
As a Security Support Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting the Client Advisors and Security staff. Your primary responsibilities will include transporting residents as needed, overseeing residents in the kitchen, covering hospital duties, and overseeing residential clients and security functions.
Some of your duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Overseeing residents in Kitchen program and monitoring as needed.
  • Transporting residents to appointments, errands, and jail placements as required.
  • Organizing and monitoring the transport calendar, working cooperatively with medical staff to ensure residents' appointments are adhered to.
  • Assisting residents and vendors entering or leaving the facility.
  • Assisting with security and agenda checks, ensuring residents are accounted for.
  • Performing daily interoffice mail delivery duties.
  • Conducting security functions such as pat-downs, UA screenings, breathalyzers, and headcounts.
  • Serving as role models of acceptable and expected behavior for the residents.
  • Reporting and regularly communicating information to other team members.
  • Writing notes and Incident Reports (IRs) for residents, positively reinforcing good behavior.
  • Attending meetings.

  • Pro Rata Basis: Accrual rates for employees working 20-30 hours per week are on a pro rata basis.
