Description
The University Union on the Sacramento State campus is seeking to hire three Information Desk and Pop-Up Shop Attendants. This position oversees two spaces: the Information Desk, where employees serve as the primary point of contact for The University Union, and the Pop-Up Shop, where employees serve as shop attendants. Responsibilities include all aspects of providing excellent customer service and support for the day-to-day operation of the University Union building. The position requires handling multiple tasks efficiently and effectively. Exceptional verbal communication skills are highly desired.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check, educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript), or driver clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.
Prerequisites
Students working at the University Union or The WELL must be attending classes at Sacramento State during the regular term (Fall, Spring), and enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) semester units for undergraduate students or six (6) semester units for graduate students.

Shifts available Monday-Sunday. Schedule varies.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks (winter, spring & summer).
Compensation
$16.90 per hour
Minimum Qualifications
- Familiarity with the Sac State campus and all its resources.
- Must have some knowledge about the University Union and its services.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to listen effectively and accurately.
- Dependable and able to follow through with multiple tasks.
- Moderate computer skills, with an emphasis on using the internet and intranet services.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Must be available and willing to work some late nights and weekend shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of vendors, departments, and offices within the University Union and on the Sacramento State Campus.
- Creative problem-solving. Resourceful.
- Familiar with Regional Transit and Hornet Shuttle schedules and maps.
- Exceptional verbal communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute quality customer service skills when working with a variety of customers, both in-person and over the phone.
- Maintain a positive image and a tidy appearance.
- Evaluate customer requests and determine appropriate action.
- Inform students, staff, faculty, and community about the University Union, the Sac State campus, and events taking place on campus.
- Direct customers and employees to the appropriate people and/or areas of the University Union and/or campus.
- Answer a high volume of telephone calls (on multiple lines) and direct them accordingly.
- Relay messages and instructions via a building radio system.
- Communicate and interpret building policies and procedures to customers.
- Assist customers who may have an event request or a change to their meeting /event room.
- Observe the University Union building and visitors. Report any suspicious or unusual behavior to the appropriate staff.
- Receive packages for the University Union and log each package in detail.
- Receive and dispense lost and found items and maintain an accurate list/description of items.
- Provide building tenants /vendors with proper assistance with concerns or questions.
- Facilitate the usage and cleanliness of the Mother's Rooms.
- Check out and check in for short-term laptop loans for current Sac State students.
- Check out and check in items borrowed by building visitors using a virtual log and attaining collateral.
- Maintain accurate tallies for customers served.
- Assist with the physical setup of the Pop-Up Shop, including signage, lighting, displays, layout, and overall visual merchandising display.
- Provide feedback to management about customer preferences, inventory issues, or suggestions for improvement.
- Assist with special projects and events throughout the semester.
- Attend mandatory pre-semester training and all staff meetings throughout the semester.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment. Continuous contact with staff and visitors. Frequent contact with the campus community and the public. Assistance with maintaining the cleanliness, organization and aesthetic of the Pop-Up Shop. Occasionally, set up tables and chairs and provide student vendors with proper display equipment or supplies.
