JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor Sterile Processing reports to the Sterile Processing Manager. Under general supervision of the department Director, the Sterile Processing Supervisor coordinates and manages the daily activities and operational needs of the department. This position assists the Manager with the overall direction, leadership, and supervision of the staff. This role performs instrument production, case assembly, sterile processing, decontamination of surgical instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local, and federal requirements. This position serves as SPD liaison with other departments. The Sterile Processing Supervisor monitors and participates in quality initiatives and assists with accomplishing organizational and department goals/objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.
• Communicates effectively with email, verbal and written mechanisms
• Ability to work independently, demonstrate neatness, organizational skills and deadline awareness.
• Keeps Surgical Services and Sterile Processing Leadership informed of all pertinent matters relating to the Surgical Services Department. Reports directly to the Sterile Processing Manager
• Knowledge of disease transmission and aseptic technique.
• Ability to stay beyond the normal tour of duty is required. Ability to take call is required.
• Knowledge of environmental hazards.
• Knowledge of universal precautions, principles and practices.
• Assures orientation and skills checklists are completed for all staff and files are maintained in the department and the employee's file in Human Resources.
• Is a source to staff regarding policies, procedures and questions.
• Ensures that policies and procedures are carried out.
• Recognizes inferior work performance, guides staff toward increased efficiency and dependability.
• Arranges in-service education programs on an ongoing basis.
• Arranges for repair of equipment/instruments and availability of loaner/replacements from other agencies or manufacturers and coordinates shipping with Materials Management.
• Evaluates products under consideration for purchase.
• Monitors repair of records of equipment and instruments and recommends replacement based and age, service record and repair costs.
• Tracks loan/return of supplies, equipment and instruments to other agencies or sales representatives
• Transports surgical instruments and equipment
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of High School or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in Sterile Processing.
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) from CBSPD Program OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association required.
• Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
