Job Description

Position Summary:

NBC Sports is seeking a Senior Director of Sports Marketing to join its industry-leading marketing organization. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Sports Marketing, this role will help drive strategic marketing initiatives across NBC Sports’ cultural tentpoles including the Olympics and Paralympics, Sunday Night Football, the Kentucky Derby and more.

This position will play a critical role in shaping how NBC Sports engages audiences, builds fandom, and creates culturally relevant marketing programs across NBC and Peacock, within the Sports Group and beyond.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in entertainment, streaming, or franchise marketing and is excited to apply that experience to the sports landscape. We are seeking a leader who can bring fresh thinking to NBC Sports, challenge traditional sports marketing approaches, and evolve our work through the lens of cultural relevance, fan engagement, and audience growth.

Working closely with the VP of Sports Marketing and cross-functional leaders throughout NBCUniversal, this individual will be responsible for developing innovative marketing plans that elevate sports properties beyond live events and into year-round consumer franchises.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Marketing Leadership

  • Serve as a key member of the Sports Marketing leadership team and strategic partner to the VP of Sports Marketing.
  • Help shape long-term marketing vision and priorities across NBC Sports properties.
  • Bring innovative thinking from entertainment, streaming, and culture marketing to drive audience growth and engagement, plus emphasis on Peacock subscriber acquisition and retention.
  • Identify opportunities to create deeper emotional connections between audiences, athletes, and NBC Sports properties and brands.
  • Develop franchise marketing strategies that extend beyond the competition calendar and build year-round relevance.

Entertainment & Culture Integration

  • Introduce new entertainment marketing best practices into NBC Sports campaigns and promotional strategies.
  • Identify fresh opportunities to connect sports with culture, music, entertainment, talent, creators, and lifestyle trends.
  • Partner with internal teams (across Peacock, NBC Entertainment, Bravo, Telemundo, News, Universal Pictures, and other NBCUniversal businesses) and external partners (USOPC, NFL, etc) to create impactful consumer programs.
  • Develop athlete and personality-driven storytelling opportunities that build affinity and cultural relevance.

Integrated Marketing & Campaign Development

  • Using strategy as guide, lead ideation and execution for large-scale, multi-platform marketing initiatives.
  • Oversee campaigns spanning linear, streaming, CRM, social, partnerships, publicity, experiential, and promotional channels.
  • Partner with creative, production, research, programming, media, social, publicity, partnerships, and CRM teams to bring campaigns to life.
  • Ensure all marketing efforts support broader business objectives, including audience growth, subscriber acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue generation.

Partnership Growth

Collaborate with league partners, governing bodies, sponsors, agencies, and external stakeholders to maximize marketing opportunities.

  • Support development of marketable programs and cross-platform opportunities that focus on marketing KPIs.
  • Represent NBC Sports in key external relationships and industry initiatives.

Team Leadership

  • In partnership with another Senior Director, manage and develop a high-performing team while fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Mentor team members and create opportunities for their growth and development.
  • Encourage experimentation, innovation, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • 12+ years of marketing experience within entertainment, streaming, media, consumer brands, or related industries.
  • Experience building and leading execution of integrated marketing campaigns across multiple platforms.
  • Strong understanding of audience development, franchise marketing, and fan engagement strategies.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and developing direct reports or cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead within a matrixed organization.
  • Passion for sports and an appreciation for the growing convergence of sports, entertainment, and culture.

Desired Characteristics:

The strongest candidate is a strategic, culturally fluent marketer who has built audience engagement around entertainment, streaming, or franchise properties and can translate that experience to NBC Sports. They should be comfortable operating across a matrixed organization, partnering with senior leaders, and turning big ideas into actionable, integrated campaigns.

Additional Requirements:

  • Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
  • This position is eligible for company-sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
