OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY

Fox TV StationsFOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network's national content.JOB DESCRIPTION

KTTV Fox 11 is seeking a versatile, hands-on Transmitter and Studio Engineer to support both our primary broadcast transmitter facility atop Mt. Wilson and our West Los Angeles production studios.

This role is perfect for a technician with strong troubleshooting instincts who wants a diverse workday. You will split your time between maintaining cutting-edge television studio gear and taking ownership of our high-power transmission systems.

Key Responsibilities

Transmitter Operations (Mt. Wilson)

  • Primary Site Ownership: Manage the daily operation, routine calibrations, and emergency troubleshooting of our high-power solid-state/liquid-cooled transmitters and RF switchgear.

  • Infrastructure & Power: Monitor critical site support systems, including site-located IT systems, microwave and terrestrial signal transport systems, satellite downlinks, UPS and generator systems, and other site-located equipment.

  • Emergency Restoration: Respond to transmitter outages, which includes driving up to the Mt. Wilson site in various weather conditions to keep the station on the air.

  • Compliance: Ensure the transmitter site complies with FCC standards.

Studio & Control Room Maintenance (West LA)

  • Broadcast Equipment Repair: Install, configure, and troubleshoot studio cameras, robotic pedestal systems, production switchers, and audio consoles.

  • Signal Flow & Routing: Maintain the central router, master control systems, and terminal equipment to ensure flawless video and audio delivery.

  • Newsroom IT Support: Assist with the upkeep of newsroom computer systems, editing bays (NLEs), playout servers, and automation systems (like Sony ELC).

  • System Integration: Wire and integrate new equipment racks, patch bays, and IP-based broadcast gear as our studio technology evolves.

What We Are Looking For (Requirements)

  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in electronics repair, studio AV setup, IT/networking, or military technical roles. (A technical degree or equivalent training is highly valued).

  • Technical Aptitude: A solid grasp of signal flow, electrical safety, and how to use basic tools (such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and hand tools).

  • IT Knowledge: Basic IT/networking skills (IP addresses, subnets, switches, PC's ).

  • Driving & Logistics: Must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and the confidence to drive mountain roads in rain, fog, or light winter conditions.

  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work comfortably behind equipment racks.

  • Availability: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including being on-call for emergency transmitter or critical studio outages during off-hours.

  • Cable Management: Experience with soldering, custom cable fabrication, and reading schematics.

Nice to Haves (But Not Required):

  • Any background in amateur (Ham) radio, telecommunications, or basic RF. Training will be available on the high power transmitter systems.

  • 2 Year degree (or higher) in a technical subject such as IT, Electronics, etc.

  • Experience with SMPTE 2110, compressed signal encoding/decoding, DANTE, NDI
