Position Summary

The Clinical Nurse, LPN, provides direct nursing support under the clinical supervision of the Nurse Manager within Unity Health Care’s Department of Corrections program. This part-time night-shift position is responsible for conducting patient intake, obtaining medical histories and vital signs, performing routine nursing procedures, administering prescribed treatments, and supporting coordinated patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain and accurately document patients’ vital signs and initial medical histories.
  • Conduct patient intake and initiate prescribed plans of care.
  • Perform routine nursing procedures, including finger-stick blood testing, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, and venipuncture when appropriate.
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments in accordance with established clinical procedures.
  • Assist providers with clinical procedures, including pelvic examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and wound care.
  • Document medication administration, treatments, and patient services accurately and promptly.
  • Assist with coordinating consultations, referrals, and services with outside agencies.
  • Provide patients and families with appropriate health education.
  • Monitor and order medications, medical supplies, and clinical materials as needed.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure patient needs are addressed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinical operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
  • Current LPN license in Washington, DC, or eligibility to obtain DC licensure.
  • At least one year of experience in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or other special-needs populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business software.
  • Ability to work the night shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Availability to work every other weekend.
