Job description

Piping Designer

Location: McIntosh, AL

Hargrove is seeking an experienced Piping Designer to support an industrial client in McIntosh, Alabama. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who can independently develop piping designs, perform field investigations, and support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced plant environment.

What You'll Do
  • Design low- to medium-complexity piping systems from concept through construction.
  • Create new isometric drawings and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for construction and plant documentation.
  • Revise existing isometric drawings and P&IDs using redlined markups and update drawings within the client's database.
  • Develop and draft moderately complex piping drawings using information such as P&IDs, piping specifications, general arrangement drawings, and equipment drawings.
  • Perform field walkdowns to gather design information, verify existing conditions, and determine routing and installation requirements.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and construction teams to resolve field design and construction conflicts.
  • Prepare material take-offs from piping drawings.
  • Review and help ensure the accuracy of drawings and deliverables submitted by external vendors.
  • Manage multiple design assignments and priorities across various projects.
  • Communicate scope changes and design issues proactively to project teams.
  • Provide on-site support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Follow established drafting and design standards, specifications, and project requirements.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of piping design experience in an industrial, chemical, manufacturing, or related environment.
  • Proven ability to independently design piping systems and create construction-ready drawings.
  • Strong understanding of piping layouts, isometrics, P&IDs, and plant design practices.
  • Experience performing field design work and coordinating with construction personnel.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Chemical, petrochemical, or industrial manufacturing facility experience.
  • Experience supporting plant modifications, capital projects, maintenance projects, and turnarounds.
  • Knowledge of piping specifications, construction practices, and field installation requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
