Key Responsibilities:
With United Cargo growing to over $1B in revenue the operational support needs have grown as well. As the airline cargo industry transitions to more data-centric decision making United will need to follow suit to maintain its competitive place as the leader in belly air cargo transport. The Analyst - Cargo Ops Analysis and Budget Management position will utilize dashboards and analytics to drive meaningful changes within the operation. This role focuses on the operational impact on investment in the warehouse and cargo infrastructure. They will provide analytics and reporting to leadership on cargo operational performance, RFS and network performance, and outside vendor performance. Additionally, they will be the lead analyst for the $20M+ cargo capital facility budget, creating business cases and working with finance to direct capital investment within the cargo operation. Furthermore, they will process invoices and payments for the $65M+ RFS budget.
  • Provide analytical support to senior management, specifically managing ad-hoc analysis and action for the $300M United Cargo Operation Budget Strategic Planning.
  • Manage $20M+ cargo facilities capital budget, including creating business cases and shepherding projects through the intensive cargo capital process.
  • Oversee and forecast the $60M+ RFS budget while leading coordination between ops, procurement, and legal on RFS.
  • Create dynamic forecasting models to analyze operational performance including warehouse capacity, plane capacity, network change impact, asset utilization, vendor performance, etc.

Note: This is a Chicago-based hybrid role, with in-office requirements 50% of the time.
Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related discipline OR 4 years of equivalent experience
  • 1+ years' experience in Finance, Economics, Operations, or Analytics
  • Fluent in MS Office Products specifically Excel
  • Knowledge of analytics and data
  • Knowledge of budgets and expenses
  • Presentation skills, specifically in pitching ideas or concepts
  • Ability to perform financial analysis; like DCF, NPV, IRR, etc.
  • Self-starter and motivated individual who can set their own timelines and deliver a quality product
  • Persuasive storyteller with the ability to align stakeholders on a vision
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Master's degree
  • 2+ years' experience in Finance, Economics, Operations, or Analytics
  • Experience working in logistics
  • Experience with capital expenditure
  • Data modeling including Excel and Access
  • Knowledge of financial reporting, including capital investments and budget accruals
  • Project Management skill and Continuous Improvement (Six Sigma Lean, PMP, etc.)
  • Analytical Tool Proficiency (SQL, Spotfire, Alteryx, Tableau, STAT, R, etc.)
  • Knowledge of logistics, supply chain, capital processes and funding requests
  • High level analytical skills like statistical modeling
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of generative AI tools and effectively leverages them to support research, analysis, content creation, and problem-solving. Apply critical thinking to validate AI-generated outputs while adhering to organizational policies for responsible AI use, data privacy, and security.
