Work Schedule: Various Shifts
The West 3 - Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Department at Everett Hospital with Cambridge Health Alliance is a 35 bed unit for patients with general and complete medical and surgical needs, often serving those with serious health issues. The unit includes 5 private rooms, 2 respiratory isolation rooms and a hemodialysis tandem room with 2 bays. Skilled and compassionate nursing staff take care of approximately 25 patients each day including an expert Hospitalist Team.
The Unit Secretary supports daily clinical operations by providing exceptional customer service, managing patient information, coordinating unit activities, and ensuring efficient communication among patients, visitors, and the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, and greet patients and visitors in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Coordinate admissions, discharges, patient rosters, and unit documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff, providers, admitting, and ancillary departments to ensure continuity of care.
  • Assist with unit operations by ordering supplies, transporting specimens and non-controlled medications, and maintaining inventory.
  • Monitor unit safety and operational tasks, including equipment checks, refrigerator temperature logs, and eye wash station inspections.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment and support a collaborative, patient-centered team culture.
  • Adhere to organizational policies, including abuse reporting and safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience
High School Graduate/GED
Knowledge and comfort with electronic medical record, customer service experience and medical terminology.
Previous Unit Secretary or Administrative Assistant experience strongly preferred.
