Job description

Patient Placement Representative

Status: Part-time, 24-hours per week

Schedule: Weekends - Saturday & Sunday, 11:00am-11:00pm

This position will be represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 722.

General Summary of Position

This is a job in the series of positions that are involved in the placement of patients at WHC. Located in the Capacity Management Department the Patient Placement Representative receives and processes requests for patient bed assignments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receives processes and expedites requests for Hospital bed assignments from the Admissions Department. These patients require placement from internal sources including Emergency Services clinics etc. and from external physician offices or other medical facilities based on the Admission Discharge Transfer Standard Practice. Coordinates bed assignments with the Bed Managers in the Capacity Management Department. Enters information into bed tracking system(s).
  • Receives processes coordinates and expedites requests for Hospital bed/unit transfers. Works with new unit to ensure patient room is ready/available. Coordinates bed assignment with the Bed Managers in the Capacity Management Department and DES. Changes information in bed tracking system(s).
  • Ensures all needed patient demographic and insurance information prior to bed assignment is in the system(s).
  • Assigns patient rooms based on patient status conversions: outpatient to inpatient or inpatient to outpatient. Completes internal transfers involving re-assignment of beds between services at the request of the unit clerk / Bed Managers in the Capacity Management Department.
  • Updates all applicable systems/logs when beds are assigned. Maintains records of patients registered each shift and an accurate account of the Hospital's census. Prints reports activity sheets census etc. as required/requested.
  • Performs duties as directed by the Bed Managers in the Capacity Management Department in the transfer center. The transfer center will function to consolidate all calls for bed placement in WHC to expedite optimal patient placement.
  • May assist with the orientation/training of new employees as required.
Minimal Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • May require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training such as training in typing/keyboarding/word-processing and office administrative procedures including customer service etc.
Experience
  • 1 to 3 years' experience in a related field required demonstrating the organizational skills and ability to perform the expectations of the position required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Requires the ability to read and write; and knowledge of grammar and arithmetic including fractions and decimals.
  • May require the use of standard office/medical equipment (i.e. typewriter personal computer data terminal on-line printer calculator telephone facsimile copier sterilizing equipment blood pressure cuff or tables); the preparation comparison or checking of reports records and related data; and basic use of formulas charts tables drawings and knowledge of their application.

This position has a hiring range of USD $24.53 - USD $37.44 /Hr.
