Union Payroll Specialist
Position Overview
The Union Payroll Specialist is responsible for preparing and remitting union benefit payments, reconciling general ledger accounts, researching discrepancies, and serving as a liaison between internal teams and union representatives across the U.S. and Canada. This role combines high-volume transactional work with investigative analysis and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review payroll reports and translate payroll data into union remittance reports.
  • Prepare and submit union benefit payments accurately while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies related to payroll, union benefits, and trust fund correspondence.
  • Reconcile union benefit general ledger accounts and investigate variances.
  • Communicate directly with unions, fund administrators, and internal stakeholders regarding payment and payroll-related inquiries.
  • Maintain union benefit documentation, remittance forms, and reporting records.
  • Manage assigned cases and requests through ServiceNow.
  • Analyze payroll data to identify issues, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to support process improvements and operational efficiency.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support across departments.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Payroll experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to investigate and resolve complex issues.
  • Experience reviewing, reconciling, and analyzing data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including working with large datasets.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Comfortable working in an environment where solutions are not always straightforward.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Union payroll, union benefits, or union contract experience.
  • General ledger reconciliation experience.
  • Bilingual French-speaking candidates are strongly preferred due to interaction with Canadian groups.
  • Payroll tax experience is a plus.
