We are seeking to fill multiple Limited Duration, Temporary Lodging Assistant (Social Service Assistant) positions in our West Portland offices at Alberta Branch-30 North Webster Ave and Midtown-815 NE Davis St.

  • Limited Duration to end 6/30/2027.

  • Limited Duration positions are eligible for health benefits, leave accrual, and are represented by a union.

Summary of Duties

As an employee working within the Child Welfare Program, you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Oregon's most vulnerable children and families. Your dedication will help us achieve the Child Welfare Vision for Transformation that will support children and young adults to be safer, healthier, experience less trauma and achieve a greater well-being.

As a Temporary Lodging Assistant, you will:

  • Provide backup support to Family Time social service assistant's (SSA's) and Case Aids, Teen- Transport and general Temporary lodging assistant in the district when not in Temporary Lodging. This may include oneoff assignments based on daily needs.

  • Provide 24/7 supervision for children in Temporary Lodging, including daytime and overnight coverage, and transport them as needed to various destinations, including teen transport.

  • Serve as Team Lead for General Temporary Lodging assistant across multiple locations.

  • Manage scheduling responsibilities and coordinate closely with Team Leads.

  • Be present in the field to support Temporary Lodging operations and ensure consistent coverage.

  • When not in temporary lodging you will support in-home safety plans by providing detailed documentation, support, engagement, and promptly reporting any concerns.

  • Transport children as needed for appointments, or any other needs as directed by caseworkers, supervisor. May transport children inter- or intrastate for permanent foster care, guardianship, pre-adoptive home visits or to return children to the State with legal jurisdiction.

  • Maintain care for children related to hygiene, basic needs, school attendance, appointments, and transportation.

  • Treat people with compassion and dignity, ensuring that children and family members feel respected and valued.

  • Prepare notes for court testimony and provide verbal or type written feedback to service workers as appropriate.

  • Sit with youth in the office as needed and conduct regular site visits or fieldbased support when required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.

  • One year of experience working in a human services or behavioral health setting

OR

  • An associate degree in any field

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience narrating or documenting observations and information related to client cases, ensuring accurate and detailed records of activities and progress.

  • Knowledge and experience using trauma-informed practices, integrating these values into client interactions and support services to promote healing and empowerment.

  • Experience using clear communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse populations, ensuring culturally sensitive and inclusive approaches in all interactions and service delivery.

  • Experience working with children and families from a wide variety of backgrounds and able to demonstrate intercultural competency.

Working Conditions

  • Your work will be conducted in offices, participant's homes, and other community sites.

  • Occasional travel is required for attending meetings, trainings, and other case related activities.

  • Some travel may be in hazardous weather conditions.

  • There are three schedule options for this position.

    • Option A: Wednesday-Saturday 7:00am-6:00pm

    • Option B: Monday-Friday 10am-7pm

    • Option C: Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 7pm

    • Option D: No Preference

  • Hours of work may fluctuate based on service needs. Occasionally, overtime compensated may be required, including evening and weekend work.

  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma and may exhibit challenges in controlling their emotions.

  • You may encounter stressful situations that will require quick decision-making skills.

  • This position requires frequent activity including climbing stairs, walking on uneven terrain, assisting children into and out of car seats, this may include lifting, up to 40 pounds.

  • The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security's I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODHS will use E-Verify to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.

  • Finalists must be cleared by the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) through a fingerprint-based criminal records check.
