Job description

SOLV Energy is a leading provider of infrastructure services to the power industry, designing, building and maintaining utility scale solar, battery storage and high voltage substation projects nationwide.

Job Description Summary:

The Indirect Tax Process Improvement Lead is responsible for optimizing and enhancing U.S. indirect tax processes, systems, and controls across SOLV Energy's utility-scale solar EPC operations and O&M services business. This role partners with tax, finance, IT, procurement, and project teams to drive efficiency, ensure compliance with U.S. tax regulations, and support scalable growth across a multi-state project portfolio.
The role plays a critical part in strengthening SOX controls, improving tax treatment across large-scale capital projects, and enabling accurate and efficient tax handling throughout the lifecycle of solar construction projects-from procurement through project closeout.
This role is fully remote. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Job Description:

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead initiatives to improve end-to-end indirect tax processes across solar EPC operations, including sales & use tax and property tax

  • Standardizeprocesses across projects, states, and business units to support scalable growth

  • Identifyinefficiencies in procurement-to-pay, job costing, and tax accrual processes and implement streamlined solutions

  • Develop andmaintainSOPs and process documentation aligned with SOX requirements

  • Partner with IT to implement andoptimizetax technology solutions (e.g., Vertex, Avalara,etc.) within ERP environments

  • Support ERP implementations and enhancementsimpactingproject accounting, procurement, and tax

  • Automate tax determinationsand reporting processes for high-volume construction transactions

  • Developintegration between procurement systems, fixed asset systems, and tax engines

  • Design, implement, andmaintainSOX controls over indirect tax processes, including documentation, testing support, and remediation

  • Ensure compliance with multi-state sales & use tax requirements, particularly in construction-heavyjurisdictions

  • Reduce risk through improved taxability determination, exemption handling, and contractor/vendor compliance

  • Partner with procurement and project teams to ensure proper tax treatment of solar equipment (modules, inverters, trackers), materials, and construction services

  • Address complex taxability issues related to construction contracts, includinglump-sumvs. time-and-material contracts and contractorversus ownertax responsibilities

  • Improve processes for use tax accruals on untaxed purchases

  • Support tax treatment of inventory, work-in-progress, and capitalized assets throughout the project lifecycle

  • Ensure consistent tax handling across multiple concurrent projects in differentjurisdictions

  • Enhance processes for tracking and reporting solar assets for property tax purposes acrossjurisdictions

  • Ensure alignment between fixed asset records and property tax reporting for utility-scale solar projects

  • Identifyopportunities to reduce property tax exposure through improved asset classification and data accuracy

  • Improve quality and accessibility of tax data across procurement, project accounting, and fixed asset systems

  • Develop reporting and dashboards to support compliance, accruals, and audit readiness

  • Act as a key liaison between tax, finance, IT, procurement, and project management teams

  • Provide training on indirect tax requirements, processes, and systems to project and procurement stakeholders

  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors, compliance providers, and technology vendors

  • Track and report on key milestones, risks, and performance metrics to leadership

  • Support indirect tax process integrations foracquiredbusinesses

  • Develop tax matrices and automation tools for internal use by the teamor throughout the business

  • Establish standard work documentation to develop repeatable processes

  • Design training materials to support tax-related changes to business processes

  • Support data collection and reconciliations for tax audit responses

  • Perform taxability research and analysis as requested

  • Prepare technical memos and documentation as needed

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field

  • 7+ years of experience in U.S. indirect tax (sales & use tax and/or property tax), tax technology, or process improvement

  • Strong understanding of multi-state sales & use tax, particularly in construction orservicesenvironments

  • Experience designing and implementing SOX controls and supporting SOX audits

  • Experience in EPC, construction, energy, or other project-based industries

  • Experience with ERP systems supporting procurement and project accounting

  • Proventrack recordof leading process improvement and cross-functional projects

  • CPA or other relevant certification

  • Experience in renewable energy, solar, or infrastructure projects

  • Experience with tax engines (Vertex, Avalara,etc.)

  • Lean Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement certification

  • Deep understanding of indirect tax in construction and EPC environments

  • Process optimization and systems thinking

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controls

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Superior attention to detail
