Job description

Ironworker Journeyman 

SUMMARY 

Mortenson is currently seeking an Ironworker Journeyman that will be responsible for marking, positioning, and securing structural steel members to reinforce concrete or building structures. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Set up, flag, and inspect a crane; inspect rigging properly 
  • Run a site level; check in truck deliveries against bill of lading 
  • Count bars and bundles of rebar, dobies, and wire mesh; direct forklift/crane to unload delivery truck 
  • Shake out rebar, distribute/organize accordingly; use pliers to tie rebar intersections with tie wire 
  • Splice mats or rebar sections together with short rebar dowels; cut excess rebar ends and miscellaneous pieces with gas cut saw or cutting torch 
  • Install mechanical rebar splices by bolting or welding ends together; install caps on vertical rebar dowels for safety 
  • Determine number, size, shape, and location of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions; bend steel rods with hand tools or rod bending machine 
  • Reinforce concrete with wire mesh; install prefabricated ornamental ironwork 
  • Receive and offload all major components; install loose components for nacelle, hub, and tower preparation 
  • Connect blades to hub; set base and tower sections; handle taglines 
  • Assist with main erection crane assembly and teardown; climb ladders (average 80m) 
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels 
  • All other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience 
  • Must have passed the Apprentice Aptitude Test 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; understand and apply basic mathematical skills (adding, subtracting, division, & multiplication) 
  • Strong teamwork orientation; detail orientation; positive attitude and professional customer service skills; active listening skills and effective communication, including an openness to diverse input and feedback 
  • Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements 
  • *Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling: up to 50 lbs.

**for CA, CO, WA, MN only** The base pay range for this role is $50.70 - $61.35 per hour. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%). 

**for CA, CO, WA, MN only** Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
