Job Overview
The Millwright performs activities for the removal, relocation and installation of plant process machinery and
equipment. Studies blueprints, manufacturer's diagrams, sketches, and work order instructions in order to plan
layout, rigging, movement, aligning and balancing operation for the more complex types of equipment and
machinery. Directs the work of lower grade employees.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
  • Makes floor layouts which include location of attachment holes and machinery and/or equipment location layouts on various assignments and for such moves which involve relocation of an entire departmental section or a portion of a section.
  • Rigs, moves, aligns, and balances heavy cumbersome machinery and equipment as indicated.
  • Builds structures and rigging as required in the moving of equipment and/or machinery.
  • Studies blueprints, manufacturer's diagrams, sketches, and work order instructions in order to plan the sequence of operations when erecting and assembling components of acid, plating, and sodium nitrate trucks, cranes, hoists, metal stairways, steel balconies, heavy gauge steel racks, partitions, steel work platforms, steel beams for floor supports, etc.
  • Installs wall fittings, brackets, etc. which are used for the attachment of heavy equipment or machinery.
  • Determines and performs the repair and maintenance operations, overhaul and disassembly of air
    compressors, high pressure boilers, processing systems, pumps and related equipment.
  • Checks to insure equipment is running efficiently.
  • Performs periodic overhaul of equipment.
  • Thoroughly checks operating mechanisms of cranes, overhead conveyors, hangar type doors, overhead
    doors, and door closers, sodium nitrate furnaces, elevators, monorails, and chainfalls, in order to ascertain
    worn, defective and/or broker parts.
  • Replaces defective parts and makes adjustments on cables and/or operating mechanisms.

Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • Must have basic knowledge of a millwright practices.
  • Must be able to read/interpret millwright/construction blueprints, sketches, specifications, etc.
  • Requires knowledge of boilers, air compressors, and conveyors.
  • Requires 4 years experience.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and
    cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the
    employee or others.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate certifications where such certifications are a requirement of the job.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents
    on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
  • Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective
    manner.
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid Real ID driver's license.
    Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement
    weather conditions.
  • Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm, diseases, cuts, bruises, burns,
    dust odors, and elevated noise levels.
  • Tasks may be performed in uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted surfaces/floors, cement structures and surfaces.

Physical Requirements:
Requires considerable physical effort involving continuous activity to perform assignments requiring lifting,moving machinery and equipment to dismantle and reassemble, climbing, etc. Heavy weight lifting requirements. Involves working with grease and oil while disassembling and reassembling equipment.
