Job description

SUMMARY
Assists Millwrights in the installation, maintenance, repair, and alignment of machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with layout plans, blueprints, and supervisor direction. Supports equipment setting, rigging, material handling, and tool preparation while maintaining a safe and productive work environment. Performs duties requiring intermediate mechanical aptitude and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks under the guidance of a Millwright or supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist Millwrights with installing, dismantling, repairing, and relocating machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and work instructions.
Read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, and installation instructions to support assigned work activities.
Gather, inspect, and organize tools, rigging equipment, materials, and supplies needed for daily tasks.
Assist with moving and positioning machinery using hoists, chain falls, rollers, dollies, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.
Support equipment assembly and installation including conveyors, pumps, motors, shafts, bearings, couplings, and related mechanical components.
Assist with precision alignment using levels, squares, tape measures, and other measuring tools; familiarity with laser and optical alignment methods preferred.
Prepare equipment foundations and anchor points using hand and power tools.
Assist with bolting, torquing, fastening, and securing machinery to foundations and structures.
Maintain clean and organized work areas, including staging and housekeeping of tools and materials.
Load, transport, and unload equipment and materials safely.
Perform lubrication, cleaning, and minor maintenance on tools and equipment.
Identify and communicate equipment issues, hazards, and jobsite concerns to Millwrights or supervision.
Follow all site safety requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies.
May assist with elevated work, confined space activities, and outage/turnaround work as assigned.
Perform additional duties as directed by supervision.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial tools and equipment.
  • Work safely and efficiently under supervision while supporting multiple work activities.
  • Use logical step-by-step procedures to complete assigned tasks.
  • Select and use appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Read tape measures and perform basic shop math.
  • Identify differences in size, shape, and alignment of machinery and components.
  • Assist with rigging and equipment placement safely.
  • Work effectively in changing conditions and on multiple assignments.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Work at heights and in industrial environments without fear.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous industrial, construction, maintenance, or millwright helper experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial hand tools, power tools, and safe work practices.
  • Experience assisting with machinery installation, rigging, alignment, or maintenance preferred.
  • Must be able to work under direct supervision and complete tasks with minimal instruction once assigned.
  • NCCER Millwright Helper or related craft training preferred, if applicable.
