Job Overview & Responsibilities
The Labor Relations Specialist at ULA supports the development and administration of labor relations programs to ensure positive, productive relationships with union partners. This role assists with collective bargaining preparation, contract interpretation, grievance management to include mediation and arbitration, and compliance with labor laws. The individual will collaborate with HR and operational leaders to ensure consistent application of labor agreements and effective communication with represented employees.
Key Responsibilities:
Collective Bargaining Support
  • Participate in bargaining preparation, including research, costing, contingency planning and drafting proposals.
  • Support negotiations by gathering data, documenting discussions, and maintaining records.
  • Help implement new contract provisions and communicate changes to appropriate stakeholders.

Contract Administration
  • Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreement (CBA) provisions to support leaders and HR partners.
  • Assist with contract-related inquiries and ensure consistent application of labor policies.
  • Monitor labor practices and escalate issues requiring leadership review.
  • Support line leaders with CBA language interpretation as well as application of established practices

Grievance & Dispute Resolution
  • Support grievance handling, including documentation, investigation, scheduling, and preparation for meetings or hearings.
  • Help identify trends and provide recommendations to reduce recurring issues.
    Coach managers on contract language and effective labor relations practices.
  • Accountable for managing costs and resource allocation.

Compliance & Labor Law
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including NLRA requirements.
  • Maintain documentation and support audits, reporting, and procedures related to labor relations.
  • Stay informed on labor law updates and share relevant insights with the HR team.

Relationship Management
  • Build collaborative working relationships with union representatives, HR partners, and operational leaders.
  • Support communication efforts to ensure clarity and consistency on union-related matters.
  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture that supports engagement and operational success.

Data, Reporting & Analysis
  • Maintain labor relations data, reports, and documentation.
  • Use data and trends to support decision-making, bargaining prep, and issue prevention efforts.

Required Years of Experience
Minimum of 6 years of related work experience
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 6 years of employee relations experience, including direct support within unionized environments.
  • Working knowledge of labor laws, grievance processes, and collective bargaining principles.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive issues with discretion, sound judgment and ability to compartmentalize issues.
  • Solid analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Labor Relations, HR, or related discipline.
  • Experience in aerospace/defense, engineering, or manufacturing environments.
  • Professional certification such as SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar.
  • Experience supporting arbitration preparation or contract negotiations.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems such as SAP.
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with high level Union Officials.
